Quite legit
by shawnlower July 26, 2007 10:58 AM PDT
"Shipping was free, and no taxes or other charges were applied. I'll let you know when it arrives."

Oh yes, I assure you the final price is quite legitimate. You only have to pay shipping on a product that you intend to ship, and it's a very harsh regime that charges tax on thin air.

Ok. Maybe I'm a pessimist.

Has anyone whois the domain?
by ryan.franklin July 26, 2007 11:05 AM PDT
The domain "medisoncelebrity.com" is tied to a address in sweden. The registrant is Valdi Ivancic and is tied to a hotmail address. If you go to medison.se he is the apparent ceo, why would he have a hotmail account for the domain? The domain was created in april of 2007, medison.se has been around since 2003. I think this is a total scam! Cant find any record of a plant in brazil either.

Hmmm.... Surname of registrant .....

It seems like I'll wait for the first shipment .... 150$ is still 150$ here and there .... And even then ..... Not because i dont believe in price, but the surname of registrant is what bothering me :D Balkan Region is well known of this "type" oportunity takers. But in the other hand ... Who knows. Let's wait and see.

$150.00 computer
by desertsurfergirl July 26, 2007 11:16 AM PDT
Maybe all the microshaft fans are in disbelief about the possibility of the price being legitimate. I ordered one and used bill me later, which has several protective layers. It's always possible to build something for cheaper, in this country we want the best of everything, wages to be the highest so everything is expensive, yet if you travel to Mexico some of the exact same medications from the same pharmaceutical houses are half the price! Why because they don't have to pay as much in wages to produce the same product nor do they have to deal with the FDA.

SWEDISH MEDIA SAYS; Likely fake, Fake advertising
by Psilome July 26, 2007 5:02 PM PDT
Its been said in Swedish media today that Medison's ad for TELE2 which happens to be one of the biggest Phone Line providers in Sweden, is FAKE and they are investegating into why this company has put a TELE2 ad on their site

This surely indicates that something is WRONG HERE, I hope no one will order this before its been investigated properly

Identity theft... Preventive measure.

Some of the CC companies offer 1 time use CC numbers that tie to your regular CC account. I think you can even set a limit for the charge.

In this instant, it might be worth considering.

I'm interested to hear how it works out for the people who try. The estimated 4 weeks for delivery is a bit scary... It gives them lots of time to take orders before people can even start to complain about not recieving their orders. Hmmm... How many $150 orders can one accept in a month?

Wishing you the best!

Don't resist LIFE! Accept every moment as if you had chosen it.

unacceptable

Dear All,
this article by Mr. Matthew Elliott, also found in the AnchorDesk newsletter, about the 150 dollars PC is unacceptable.

Mr. Matthew Elliott did not even care to verify that the 150 $ laptop he was talking about indeed exists.
Thus, from a professional point of view this is unacceptable.

Moreover, such atrciles can cause a lot of confusion to naive users/customers.

Regards.

Novice? In computerland, every day is a new day..

I cannot imagine why anyone would be attacking this man (novice or expert) when he has bluntly stated it may be too good to be true, that he has shelled out his $150 and clearly added, don't do anything until he's sees it to believe it, and that the lack of memory makes him skeptical to begin with. The chances that this laptop running Linux, will function with all or any of the other programs that are out there, are probably small, considering everything made in computerland is designed to work with Microsoft, but where's the glass is half full mentality in these responses? Sit back, relax, and let the man tell you whether it works with everything and is easy to use, or whether it's slow, whether he had to return it, whether he got his money back, whether it is even good for anything more than Internet gaming (which really requires quite a bit of memory if you've got teens like I do, and throw a fit if the game isn't "up to speed"), or whether it's a $150 portable email send/receiver. Seems to me that there are a lot of pretty ungrateful people responding to this CNET "willing guinea pig" from the masses out here in CNET world... I'd just like to say, thank you to the man for being the laboratory rat for the rest of us who are desperate for a (financial) solution for all of the family members that want a laptop of their own (and now). I'll be following his purchase information till the (hopefully not bitter) end!

Mr. Elliot, you're an idiot
by zrogerz69 July 27, 2007 7:59 AM PDT
Because of the controversy over whether this item exists, it's just plain idiotic to put it on your front page and advertise it like it's legitimate. From the parts spec sheet alone it's easy to see it would be near-impossible to purchase parts for even $150. Look at their so called "parent" company's website, they claim they designed the iMac's color scheme. Look at their privacy policy, it's a straight copy of apple's, all they did is switch the names apple and medison. With only an email address, because their so called phone support is "down", this is extremely fishy.

Cnet should do a little more research before providing free advertising for a sure scam. Although the payment processor is a legitimate US company, having 6 weeks to ship is plenty of time for that guy to take your money and run. Although since you can only pay with credit card, I suppose you could just do a dispute or chargeback claim, but be careful at what the timelimit your cardholder gives you for it.

NOT one person has recieved their laptop yet, remember that.

Calm down!
by aporter5 July 27, 2007 10:21 AM PDT
Hey this is a blog not a e-zine article. Ordering these laptops based off this blog post is buyer beware just like anything else on the internet. Also, for everyone out there crying about Medison having your cc info, you should go to 2checkout.com website and actually learn about how this process works. 2Checkout is the business actually handling the $$ and taking orders. They are BBB approved and will protect the end users from fraud. This doesn't mean that Medison is legit but I'm willing to do business with 2Checkout for a $150 laptop.

There is no way it can sell for $150 - with free shipping! - and make a profit. The competition (Intel and OLPC) are more expensive with much lower specs - processors, hard drive, the screens half the size of this one. Too good to be true. :)
