Xbox360 is MORE expensive, for worse hardware, but better games. The PS3 is some great hardware, but the software support is not all that great yet?

The xbox360 is $480 for the elite system, $200 for HD-DVD, $100 for wi-fi, $60 for xbox live, (and $15 if ever to add standard memory card support and $35 for bluetooth) that is $840 ($890) BEFORE games. The PS3 is $500, plus $50 for hdmi, and $69 120gb laptop hdd that is $619.

Anyone complaining about the PRICE of the PS3 is only looking at the MSRP for the first box you buy, not how much it costs to get the whole system. Even if you ?don?t want blue ray? or any other feature the ps3 gives you, WHO CARES, at worse it is costing you the same as getting ?just what you wanted? and nothing more from an Xbox360. I swear Americans are idiots, they never think in total costs, but only UP FRONT cost. That is why so many people default on car loans. They only thing the car is $400 a month for a payment, they forget all the OTHER money they spend on gas, insurance, tolls, parking, maintenance etc? that fast adds up to more than the purchase price. IF you are really into gaming, over the life of the system you will spend ALLOT more money on movies, games, movies, electricity etc? than you spend on the first purchase price hell the difference between a current PS3, and a xbox360 is less than the cost of 2 games BEFORE the PS3 price drop?

Now as for GAMEING, right now the games on the Xbox 360 are much better, and then there is Xbox live. Yea PS3 internet is ?free? but if you are into gaming who cares. The Xbox 360 blows the PS3 away here. Now the PS3 is NOT just for games but for movies too, where the Xbox360 sees this as a nich.

Honestly is ANY of this a surprise? Microsoft is predominantly a software company, so why wouldn?t there software be better? Sony is mostly a hardware, and movie company, so why wouldn?t there movie support, and hardware be better?

The only advantage Sony has here is software is MUCH easier to ?fix? than hardware. SO if Microsoft did NOT get the basic hardware right from the standard (processor, graphics etc?) there is not much they can do to fix that short of launching the next gen system. If Sony got the hardware right, but the software wrong they can roll out a massive update and revise the software on ALL existing systems to make it better.

In the end what would be awesome is if sony and Microsoft teamed up for a system. Have Sony develop the hardware, and have Microsoft develop the software. Imagine the $600 60gb PS3 with wi-fi, bluetooth, standard memory cards, standard laptop hdd etc? running a great Microsoft live gaming system. Too bad that won?t happen any time soon?

Finally someone who gets my point! almost...

I totally agree with you that is exactly what i have been trying to say! for the same thing you would pay about 200-300 more for an xbox. now the part you got wrong was that the games for the xbox are better. Yes they are better now and there are many more of them, but the PS3 has so much more potental and sony will expand rapidly on game development in the next year. with blu-ray, a potentally 300gb disk, memory is not an issue. and may i remind you that the ps3 has 5 more processing cores? Basicly the best console right this very day, 360. but in a month or 2, the ps3 hands down. The ps3 has so so much potental and room to grow, where the 360 is at its peak.

NOT good at all

So they pretend that people will pay $600 + Tax for the SKU with just 20GB more and a game like Motorstorm???? What a silly idea. Sony shot themselves in the foot again. I mean, the Xbox360 Elite with a 120GB hard drive is just $479. Jeez Sony... how do you pretend to compete against that?
They are asking $100 more for a game that can easily be found in eBay for $20 so it's like paying $80 more for 20GB more! Nobody will buy the 60GB version now. Bad, bad move from Sony. It's like no price cut at all. Because nobody will want the 60GB model anymore, and then $600 + Tax will still be a lot of money for almost everybody. And for a console without good games at all.
So they still have a $499 SKU and a $599 SKU, just like at the beginning hahaha. They should have just one "premium" SKU. They are doomed now.
And early adopters are getting the shaft. They paid $600 + Tax for the 60GB version with no game at all. Sony is disappointing even its own fanbase.
Personally I say "no thanks". With my Wii and Xbox360 there's no need of anything else.

I haven't gone overboard and spent hours of researching but i do know that the Sony PS3 (20GB AND 60GB) is a great deal at $499 US. It offers features that other gaming consoles lack such as integrated wi-fi, media slot card reader, snd even Blu-Ray support. I find that a great offer at $499 US considering Blu-Ray Players run at $699 and up. Now some would say that this makes no sense because $499 is the cost of the 20GB version of the PS3 but it is now discontinued becuase SONY feels that 20 GB is to little so an 80 GB predecessor is being made. Sure the PS3 has been given bad criticism for being Late, expensive, and incompatible but $499 is what you can expect to pay for getting a nex-gen blu-ray player and a top of the line gaming console that is appropriate enough for you to plug and play in your living room. For those of you who havent gotten your hands on the PS3 and still want to wait for another price drop expect to see another price drop in fall-winter.

that I think the 80GB PS3 comes with IPTV (I dunno what that is)compatibility.

and jeez, all u need was to post your opinion once. You don't need to flame it.
No. You're wrong

YOu must have been furious that PS2 ruled the market and now you want xbox to dominate. i understand, you hate **** to beating you.
About price drop = same thing is happening for the xbox360 right now. major price cuts. it's equally unfair to early adopters and fans, not just for Sony.
Xbox Elite = Well, ps3 is bit more expensive here, but it has Blu-ray support (xbox doesn't have their HD-DVD. $100 seperate buy) , No Wi-Fi(again, seperate dongle) , no multiple card readers. So, it's pretty much same. And, ps3 harddrive is more accessible (just typical 3.5inch found in computers-It's easier and cheaper to upgrade)
Basically, xbox is cheaper in system but it adds up if you want features. Ps3 just added altogether. got it?
Does anyone know...

This topic was originally put on the site for us to comment on more then a month ago, but they posted it again i guess because it had many comments. If there is anyone interested on why the ps3 is still a better deal if the ps3 was still 600 and the xbox 360 had its current discount post here and i will tell you why. If you just want to know or if you are doubtful about what i am saying, I would be happy to elaborate.
