Lunacy

Simple lunacy is all this is. Anything with this much hype surrounding it is definitely something to stay away from.

That's just stupid!
by Xtoo June 25, 2007 7:49 AM PDT
I am all for the iPhone and would like to get one, but only after
reading positive feedback from real users. To pay to have
someone in line is just stupid. No one needs this phone the first
night it comes out. Apple will have plenty of units to sale for a
couple of weeks, and if Apple does not, I am sure they will not
follow the Wii strategy. So Apple fanboy or not, $900 for a phone?
Screw that!

what if the line stander gets to the front of the line?
by charred40 June 25, 2007 2:15 PM PDT
This is really dumb, since they could rush all the people through and the line standers are not being paid to buy the phone. One guy said he would be there after 5 pm, but I have stood in line for the Wii and know how this works. And if I was a line stander, I would have to get paid in advance. it is not the line stander's fault that they don't get a unit. People will be camping out all night. Apple will not pursue the Wii strategy. They want to get the recurring revenues going ASAP. So I agree that many of these will be available within a couple of months. I just hope they don't break as regularly as the iPod's. those are awful! have fun with this!!
I wonder...

I wonder how many people in line will be dressed up as Star Wars characters.

(I'm assuming there will be a lot of people who waited days in line to see Star Wars are here for the iPhone.)

Discounts for costumes

Dress up as an Apple Newton or Lisa and get 10% off. Dress up as Jobs himself and get %20.
Waste of Money
by jmdecombe June 25, 2007 8:53 AM PDT
There will be enough iPhones to satisfy demand on the first day.
Show up at 8pm to ensure all those who waited in line have been
processed already, and you can get your iPhone and leave within
minutes. But the fun part is to wait in line with your fellow Apple
nutcases...

Real lunacy
by ewelch June 25, 2007 9:27 AM PDT
The high school student won't be able to buy the phone anyway. It
takes a 2-year contract and people under 18 can't sign contracts!

That person will be out a quick $75, or the student.
Gotta love the Mac Fanboys
by BulletProofChen June 25, 2007 10:41 AM PDT
I have no idea how Steve Jobs keeps making people so delirious about Mac products. This thing is totally overhyped and overpriced, but Apple fans are willing to pay others to stand in line for it! Amazing brainwashing job.

Oh, and btw, neither Boston nor San Francisco qualify as "the biggest of the big cities". As of the 2000 census these cities were ranked 20th and 14th in the US, and they're even lower as of 2005 estimates. Like Apple, they're only "big" in mindshare, not in reality.
