So I called Microsoft today, and they told me that it's not covered. No, they did not care about why it cracked in the first place, or how, or whatever. Just 'it's not cover, sorry'. At least the representative was nice enough to apologize several times.
But then that got me thinking. There's no 'that's odd..' or 'did you drop it?' or anything like that. Just 'it's not cover'. It's like the problem is such a frequent occurence, they had to rehearse their answers.
Which I think is the case, seeing all these complaints all over the internet.
My firm is currently investigating consumer complaints concerning the cracking or breaking of the internal LCD screen of the Microsoft Zune during normal use.

- Mine just did this today. I couldn't believe it. And, of course, Best Buy considers it accidental damage so they won't have it fixed or replace it.
