Yet another youtube video...

Here a guy smashed his hand through an overhead lighting fixture, braking both the glass housing and the light bulb inside. His crime? Going for that killer overhand serve in Wii tennis.

what I find funny!
by daddosplat December 2, 2006 8:06 PM PST
Whats funny is people will get pissed off saying your bashing nintendo. This system incorporates activity into the game. We sometimes as humans tend to get carried away and have accidents especially when were spastic already! I mean someone gets hurt playing soccer football basketball or just running no big deal its expected but if it happens on a wii theres a conspiracy against nintendo! props to you for your post warning gamers quit swinging for the fences keep it in the park!!!
Always a curve

There's always a learning curve to any new technology and know where your hand is in conjunction to the next appliance is a part of that curve, hehe.

Bad Reporting
by coolasbluefire November 29, 2006 8:21 AM PST
I realize this is a blog, but it is still affiliated with the CNET website. I feel that it's just plain bad reporting to post a video like this especially when you can't even see a Wii console anywhere around the only TV which is ever in the frame. There is no solid proof that this is how this gentleman hurt himself.

For the best credibility CNET should only post videos which show concrete evidence that an injury has occured from use of the Nintendo Wii.

Lastly, I can't help but feel that Nintendo is being targeted a bit in all this since admittedly the video itself proclaims "This is what happens if you bowl in Wii Sports too close to a metal object," e.g. placing blame soley on the user himself. If the product itself is at fault, then sure, it deserves the bad press, but if it's just another case of 'user error', then let's just accept that people will always find a way to break products or use them improperly. :-)

i totally agree.....10 characters

I certainly have noticed laziness seeping into CNet. I guess on the left coast people only work less than 3 days a week.

Furthermore, a 65 year old man shouldn?t be playing anything wii. There is no way to know how that injury happened, and it is actually a **** poor YouTube video to begin with.

Quit Bashing Nintendo
by Tavius16 November 29, 2006 9:19 AM PST
Any time you guys find a problem with Nintendo you post it. I don't see anything bad about Microsoft or Sony. I think you should stop being so biased. I do know this is a blog so you don't have to listen to me, but oh well.

Quit being so sensitive
by make_or_break November 29, 2006 1:06 PM PST
You make the rest of us Nintendo fans look like whiny wimps.

This is about some stupid lard who doesn't have the brains to figure out how much clear space to have around him when playing with his Wii. Just like any other company, Nintendo can't account for all the bloody nimrods out there. Thanks to YouTube, his deeds are now available for all to cherish.

Injury ? You call that an injury ?

I have a low ceiling in my basement, and whenever we pop on a game of Soul Calibur, some unlucky soul punches the air in excitement. Promptly resulting in bruised knuckles and swearing that would blush a sailor.

A warning to anyone else 'duh' enough to play swinging games around solid objects ; everything is weapon especialy in your hands.

wii injury..
by seamonkey420 December 1, 2006 12:16 PM PST
hehe.. thats my vid.. nice, so this is why i have over 26,000 views on that video..

as for the injury, they can easily be avoided by paying attention to where your standing but again like most physical activites that occur indoors (ie DDR), the fun can override the logic.. :P

dad is on a good road to recovery and was playing 10 mins afterwards and then moved his chair farther from the stove. however, he still is going to get one after xmas he said. wiiiiiii!

what we should really say about nintendo
by thinkbeforeyouspeak December 2, 2006 9:01 AM PST
why don't all you internet media folks just post it like this: "clearly, many americans are too dumb to use the nintendo wii. we recommend they not buy the system." that makes more sense than trying to blame the system - or at least the titles of links sound like it. oh, i swung my arm and didn't realize there was a f'n metal object there!? i bet nintendo never thought so many dumb ppl would be using their game system. funny how kids seem like they've had no problems...

People get hurt during all kinds of activity!
by daddosplat December 2, 2006 8:14 PM PST
Nintendo would be happy to see the old guy trying out the wii and look he wants to get one now after xmas! nintendos goal was to make non gamers give it a try. just because some people are over zealous and swing for the fences and get hurt is not the systems fault or nintendos fault. we need to exhort people to game responsibly. but if nintendo adds 20 million new faces to the gaming community how does that hurt anyone!! maybe they produce a few more good games a compete better with other systems! GO VIDEOS GAMES!
YA IT IS YOUR VIDEO
by daddosplat December 2, 2006 7:51 PM PST
I found it and posted a link to it on the original link also I think nintendo would be happy to see your dad who doesnt seam to bo your average gamer getting his game on. obviously were sad he hit his hand accidents happen. but the fact he wants his own wii is a testament to what nintendos trying to do. I mean did he ever play other video game??? IF SO MY POINTS ARE INVALID. but it appears that hes one of the non gamers turned on to games by the wii????

nongamers, nintendo = winner
by seamonkey420 December 10, 2006 7:56 AM PST
yes, he never played video games prior just maybe some atari 2600 back in the day but after NES, games became to 'confusing' for him (yet he can take a tractor apart, rebuild the engine, and put the whole thing back together again). but like others have said, accidents happen. especially if your having a blast and getting into the game. how often do people stub their toes? anywho...

nintendo hit the mark w/their target market (the usual non-gamer market).
