Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
Is Sony pretending they are in 3rd place because of the system design? Ideas like this are why Sony is failing in the video game busines.
The PSP Go is nothing more than a MYLO with a gamepad on a smaller screen and now the PSP Slim will be nothing but the same system with a new design that nobody asked for....enjoy 3rd place SONY.
For the record..I own a PS3 & 360 so please don't accuse me of being loyal to any company. I can afford both but I use my 360 more than my PS3.
When is Sony going to realize that it's THE PRICE that's holding people back.
Bad economy + expensive console? HELLO!!!
If the PS3 was such a bargain, then consumers would have realized that and they would be flying off the shelves.
The fact that they're rotting on store shelves proves that the PS3 is NOT a bargain.
In the business world, the consumers make the final judgement and their judgement is that the PS3 is an overpriced ivory back scratcher.
Until then, sony won't get a dime from me.
Your comment is very observant, and I think you bring up some very valid points. As a point of contention, I think the main reason people support backwards compatibility is to simplify the home entertainment setup. Why have a PS2 and a PS3 console taking up space in your cabinet when you can have one console that utilizes multiple media? This proved a real winner for owners of the previous PSOne. Personally, I still own many PSOne games and enjoyed throwing them into the PS2 now and again. Considering the PS2 has enjoyed a 9 year lifecycle, many PS3 owners have compiled a library of PS2 games. Is backwards compatibility a necessary component for the PS3? Certainly not, but it has become an option of convenience which people have come to value. As far as decent PS3 games are concerned, we?re not even 3 years into the system?s lifecycle. I believe late ?09 and ?10 will produce some quality titles, like the 2 year old PSOne?s success with (then) Squaresoft?s Final Fantasy VII in 1997, or 1998 release of Konami?s Metal Gear Solid.
Also, worthy of note is the success Nintendo has had with their ever-expanding library of previous generation games on their Wii?s virtual console. There?s a lot of revenue to be had with backwards compatibility in addition to current-gen games. It seems Sony is starting to recognize this business model, with the recent PSN release of Metal Gear Solid, as well as Final Fantasy VII, which has generated over 100,000 downloads (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174911). Perhaps the PS4 will offer downloads of PS2 games?
I agree with you - I would prefer if my PS3 had backwards compatibility because it would make my setup simpler. I had a PSone, and bought the PS2 (slim version) in part because of BWC. I was disappointed when Sony dropped it on the PS3 (I bought a 160gb unit). I think it would be great to have it on the PS3, but I think realistically they could only do that without an increase in price. I don't know if that if feasible for them. I have about 25 plus games I guess on the PS2 and my son still plays many of them.
I also agree with the lifecycle of the system comment - I think the best is certainly yet to come with the PS3. The 360 got off to a very strong start, no doubt because of ease of programming, and the PS3 was hindered (as was the PS2) by programming complexity. The PS2 though started to really shine a few years into it's life cycle, and the fact that it is still selling is quite a testament. I am not knocking the 360 by any means, but it does seem like the gap between the 360 and PS3 is closing with regard to game quality. It seemed like EVERY game that came out on both systems invariably was always a little better graphically on the 360, whereas now I see more reviews stating the opposite or that there is little to no difference. I wouldn't mind having a 360, but for me unless they drop the price or offer a better bundle (Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones - really?) then I am still not sold. I don't have enough disposable income to warrant buying another system at the moment, plain and simple! lol
Drop the price of games and I might actually buy something other than Gran Turismo.
please stick to reality
that is a great price for a service that does a good service
thats why you have millions more xbox live users then psn users
I pretty much decided to be content with a 360 and Wii as opposed to having all 3 when Sony took all backwards compatibility out of the PS3. I LOVED being able to go into gaming stores and finding $5-20 classic games from the PSone or PS2 that I overlooked. Now that I no longer have a PS2 that's no longer possible. Sony may have thought they were saving a couple bucks but when I had 300+ games I was their dream type customer. Now I'm no customer at all.

- Im sick of all your crying about backward compatability in the ps3. If you all wern't so cheap you would already have it. I love playing my old ps2 games.
