Comments on: Samsung Omnia 2 coming to Verizon

Verizon may not have the iPhone (yet). But later this year it will have the Samsung Omnia 2, which may be the next best thing to an iPhone 3G S if you're a Verizon subscriber.

I got the Omnia in December as a gift from my wife. I love the phone as a surrogate until Verizon sells the iPhone or Pre. The main problems with it are three things: 1. It's battery life sucks big time. I can take it off the charger, start up the browser and five short minutes later the phone is HOT and the battery is at 75%. 2. The lack of a 3.5mm phone jack is a real pain. You have to plug in an adapter, which uses the same connector you sync and charge through. It's stupid. 3. The kludgy OS almost requires you to use a stylus.

The spec that worries me is the Verizon Omnia is supposed to have a straight GPS(crippled as usual from Verizon), but the new specs have the GPS as assisted. Does this mean Verizon can still force you to get the Navigator for an extra $10/month? Or did Verizon force Samsung to reduce the capability of the phone?

You need to bring that phone to a Verizon store, because there is NO WAY it should get hot to the touch on the battery. That is a hardware issue. If you push, they will give you a new one in the store.

Why does everyone assume everything is Verizons fault. No wifi on the Blackberry, blame it on Verizon even though all their Winmobile devices have it. GPS crippled on Winmobile, blame it on Verizon even though its not on all of their phones (Storm, Tour etc) You ever think that maybe the manufacturer did it. As far as know, the current Omnia is crippled on all carriers that carry the CDMA version. If that phone is getting hot and draining its battery, take it in. Its defective. Mine would go for days. And if you really want crippled, get and Iphone. Become a minion of Steve.

I'M DROOLING OVER THIS PHONE ! I'm currently an AT&T customer. When this phone actually becomes available, I might switch all lines of service that I have with AT&T (family plan) over to Verizon. I've long been ticked at AT&T for not offering a plan that would allow me to tether an iPhone to my notebook computer and use it as a data modem. Instead, I pay AT&T each month for three separate data plans- a plan for my phone, a plan for text messaging, and a $60 per month five gigabyte data plan for my notebook computer. HERE I COME VERIZON- unless AT&T offers an iPhone tethering plan before this phone hits the shelves (and I'll switch even if Verizon doesn't offer a tethering plan for the Omnia II).

IF this is true, then its the first time ever the companies get it right . it has everything. Anyways, this phone will be competting with a 150 refurbished 3gs and a 50 dollar refurbished iphone 3g and may be a 10 dollar off iphone data plan. And omanias are usualy overpriced. plus boggy windows os. microsoft still thinks that a phone is a pc. and intends to keep it that way. and verizon data plan is not cheap either. i wish them good luck. i sugest the makers to take it to metro pc they need a phone real bad. to take care of the 5 dollar intl plan.

This is definitely a phone worth considering. Just had my hands on an HTC HD (not in US) which is the same screen size - not bad and i have small hands. I'll probably upgrade from my Moto Q to the Omnia 2 or the HTC Diamond 2 - whichever Winmo 3.2" screen or better comes out first - or wait a few months for price drops.... either way an upgrade is finally in sight. now Verizon be fair on the pricing...

I came to this page looking for info on the Samsung Omnia II.

"I-phone pretender", I don't get the quip. The Omnia is a highly equipped mobile device, that outperforms the I-phone across several benchmark processes. The Omnia, on the market, tested as the fastest, most accurate, and efficient performing smart phone, across all those processes, in the whole wide world, recently.

The Operating System is Windows Mobile 6.1, with which the user can create Word Documents, and .txt docs (commonly known as notepad on the PC), and sync those documents with a PC. The calendar, and the tasks list, are viewable directly from the main screen, and can be synced with [that little thing called] Microsoft Office.

The Omnia, and Windows Mobile 6.1, is a descendant of the PDA and Pocket PC, which predate, that toy, that 'MP3 player with a phone', the I-phone.

Uh, The camera is 5.0 MP, with a flash. The Omnia i900 IS ONE OF THE FIRST VIDEO CALL CAPABLE MOBILE DEVICES. Oh, this is just for starters, hack.

Samsung is a leader and innovator in mobile phones, computing, computing peripherals, and electronics. Samsung entered the mobile phone market in 1996, long before Apple. And Samsung started manufacturing PCs in 1983.

Do I need to tell you about Microsoft, too? You sound like a clueless rustic, working on his first cell phone, after four hours with an AT&T telemarketer pushing a bundle.

I totally love my Omnia. I would never trade it for any I-phone. I-Phone doesn't even have tablet handwriting recognition (my #1 requirement). I think your attitude toward technology is dangerous, and narrow minded. And you don't know the first thing about contemporary, edge, mobile phones and mobile phone technology, making such a statement, the "I-phone pretender"

Samsung was making great mobile phones, smart phones, and touchscreen phones long before the I-phone was in development. Your a nut, a quack!

Now where's that Omnia 2! . . .

diamondduq your blathering about windows makes you the biggest mac wanna-be of them all. The Omnia and lots of HTC phones work great with Windows. Stop bending over backwards and taking it from your masters, and have an actual intelligent thought in your little fanboy body. Pathetic...

he did think when he spoke. the 50k in app totals are a bunch of garbage. half of them are free and half of the other half looks like was written by 2 yr olds.

xda developers have written more than what the app store has all by themselves and those are all free.

when someone says developers he/she does not mean total apps.. let's make it clear "developers" not apps because 1 developer in the app store has probably written a 1000 free or useless apps.

apple will never ever reach the heights of microsoft winmo OS. the iphone is like buying a calculator "it is what it is". Winmo OS is like buying a canvas because you can do anything and still run extremely stable.

dont bother arguing, stick with you pretty apple device and be happy.

I love the look of this phone. I currently have the Samsung Omnia and just upgraded the ROM so the GPS is unlocked. Took Verizon long enough. I have had the phone since December and have no complaints. It works like a dream with my Outlook and Office files and I have added applications that make the phone work the way I want to...ie Thumbcal. The new calendar on the II looks like Thumbcal so I many not need to use it anymore.

One thing I wish they would keep is the front camera like in Asia but I doubt Verizon will do that. They tend to dumb down the phone. I do think when it comes out it will be running Windows 6.5 which is awesome.

I hope that Verizon lets me upgrade to this phone without any issue. I'll sign another 2 year contract for this phone!
