Comments on: Friday Poll: Which of your hopes did Apple dash?

Sometimes what's not said at a company's big event is as important as what is. What were you hoping to hear more about at Apple's WWDC but didn't?

1) User-Replaceable battery
2) Adobe Flash
3) Tethering (although this is apparently AT&T's fault, not Apple's)

I love Crave.... Here's the headline for Today's forst iPhone 3GS post:
Which of your hopes did Apple dash?

Here's the headline for the first Pre post in the thread:
My top 5 wish list for the Palm Pre

One has Apple DASHING YOUR HOPES the other asked for a polite WISH of things left out of the Pre.
your hate could not be more transparent.

And yet not as transparent as your own hyper-sensitivity to anyone that doesn't worship at the Altar of Steve.

I think the difference is in the expectations....

People have been waiting for this iPhone to come out and fix things left off in the past. So if your thing wasn't included, you won't see it for a while since Apple has only been releasing a new unit once every year.

For the Pre, this is a first generation device, so no one has been dealing with pains for the last year or two -- at least with this specific device. With rumors of other Palm devices around the corner (even if the ones coming in the near future are scaled down models) there's hope for more (and maybe more frequent) updates to the new OS and hardware.

Though I agree with your assessment that seems a bit biased in their approach.

@ ritchotte: How about you and all of the people who think CNet hates Apple get with all of the people who think CNet loves Apple get together, make a huge list for each side of the argument, then tally up the results for a final decision. And do us all a favor who don't believe either way and shut up until you come up with a final answer signed by each of you.

I just wish they could come out with a $99 ipod touch. If they can do it with the iphone, why not the touch? Maybe someone could explain this to me.

obvious.

the cost of the hardware is much more than $100. they sell the phone at a loss and make up the difference on the monthly phone bill. Now if you want to, I will sell you an 8gb ipod touch for $99 and you pay me $20/month for the next 2 years.

I am tired of Apple (and I'm not an Apple-hater). There is more to the world than Apple.

There's a "fine furniture" store down the street. They claim their furniture is so much better than Walmart furniture. But the people that buy the fine furniture are just snobs. Walmart furniture is better. I
know because they sell so much more of it than the fine furniture store does. Why would I pay a fine furniture "tax" when I can get furniture made out of the same stuff (Wood, material, etc) from Walmart for so much less. And the fine furniture store is all controlling because the cushions are hand made and not removeable. With the Walmart furniture, I can put cushions on it that I got from Ross or have my great aunt Betty sew it. And I can put my cushions on my friends couch just fine. The fine furniture cushions only fit their own furniture! My friend has a couch from the fine furniture store. He says he never has to worry about stains. He is so snobby. I don't have to worry about stains on my Walmart couch either because I apply stain guard to it every day and I put my couch behind a layer of clear plastic. He thinks he doesn't need stain guard, but we all know his couch could get stains too. He has had his couch for like ten years with no stains, but I know it's just a matter of time. The fine furniture store should just close down and give the money back to the shareholders. I will stick with my Walmart furniture because they sell the most furniture for less.

@bogusbasin. Don't forget to wait for a good walmart sale when you can save even more.
by fleurya June 12, 2009 5:54 PM PDT
@ ejhayes76: if you're tired of it, don't read the articles. Did Matt go to your house and hold a gun to your head while you read it?

@ BogusBasin: So you think crappy particle board held together with weak metal pieces is better than a well-made piece of furniture made of real, whole wood? How about this: have you ever bought anything in your life that you felt was of better quality than a similar product? Well, that's why some people buy Apple products. You may not agree in this case, but I'm sure at some point in your life you've bought a more expensive product when someone else thought you paid too much. So shut up, hypocrite.
by mcjaker June 12, 2009 10:47 AM PDT
Ok... ummm... not sure why we are talking about furniture, but I consider Apple to be a better quality product. As a designer I use both mac and pc, and consistently have countless problems with the pc (not to mention all the hoops designers have to jump through to get web sites to view correctly on IE compared to EVERY OTHER BROWSER! So my opinion is you get what you pay for. PC's are cheap and act accordingly... MAC's are overpriced, yet seem to work longer and perform better.

Since this was supposed to be about what the iphone left out and not meant to be another vs. debate... I still want Verizon to carry iphone.

That ATT would offer a upgrade path for the 3GS to existing customers. How about 20% off retail price?

They really can't because most of the cost of your original iPhone is tied into your 2 year contract. However, if you check on AT&T's website you'll find that you can get one for a discounted rate once you've reached the 18 month mark. However, I don't think it's worth it. I'm just going to enjoy my 3G until next year when an even better iPhone comes out.

I didn't even know there were rumors of games on the Apple TV. Other than no tablet or netbook, which I didn't really think would happen anyway, the biggest miss in my mind was Flash on the iPhone.

I wish they'd sort out how to easily 'arrange' iphone Apps into a sensible order on the iPhone!!

I like this idea! Some kind of intelligent app organization based on the product category. I only have 4 pages of apps, but some people have a lot more. That's just the kind of subtle enhancement that Apple loves to further refine their products. You should definitely contact Apple with that idea.

Universal multi-tasking on the iPhone. Pretty sure I'm still gonna pick one up, but matching that great Pre feature would have turned "pretty sure" to "oh HELL yeah!"

My biggest disappointment was the fact that mms isn't going to work when 3.0 comes out! That was a let down. Not Apples Fault but i have been looking forward to not getting those stupid little links and passwords to a website to view the stupid things. For quite some time! Of course there really isn't a really good reason why we didn't get availability of it sooner!
