Takes photos and then transcribes them? I think I'll wait for smart meters.

No thanks. I'd rather make Big Brother work for it. Not that he won't...and no doubt real soon now...and I'll have to pay--a lot--for it. *sigh* I miss not living in America anymore.

Smart grid won't track your gas, or your water. And gas consumption is likely makes a bigger footprint than your electric.
