i doubt gran turismo will ever grace teh psp since it was supposed to be a launch title for the original psp.. 5 years later it still doesnt even exist... i wont hold my breath on that one ever seeing the light of day as from interviews the makers are worrying only about gran tu rismo 5 and thats been delayed way to many times as it is..

That photo looks like somebody took a MYLO and replaced the keyboard with Playstation controls.

I would think SONY can and will do better than what this speculative mock-up shows.

They HAVE to, and they know it. I am all for digital downloads, works great on my iPod, and I think the 1 billion apps downloaded from the iTunes store for the iPhone says it all.

People are OK with digital distribution. I just hope they come up with some kind of way to get our currently owned PSP UMD games onto this new device.

Looking forward to e3 now!

i realize this is an un-official rendering but if the actual device comes out like this it looks like it will be really uncomfortable to hold

I like this setup. Although it won't play my old UMDs this setup is good. The lack of a physical drive should mean that more features will get packed into the handheld. If it has an accelorometer and touch screen I'm sold. Sony just needs to make sure the price is right.

I won't comment on the rendition as that would be pointless.

So is this a next generation PSP or just a redesign? Does it make sense to release a model that has a minor graphical upgrade as opposed to a truly next generation CPU? Will I be able to resist buying it either way?

The internal memory is a good idea in my opinion as would be a higher resolution screen and, God willing, a second analog stick. A touch screen and an accelerometer would be nice add ons as well but not as necessary.

UMD as a DVD alternative failed yeah, but as a games storage, it's not bad. You can store bigger games on a UMD than a DS cart.

Also, consider this. A UMD game can be around 1.8GB. Can you imagine downloading that much for each game for a portable device (also, presumably, the "PSP-GO" or whatever will use very similar software to the current PSPs. This means downloads are UN-PAUSEABLE.)

Download only consoles do not work, at least not for the next few years.

a touch screen would be nice...but it still needs all the other regular controls.

i wanted a psp sooooo bad when it first came out, but i just didn't have the extra cash to spend. a few years later when i thinking about getting the psp, i noticed that most of the games i want hadn't changed (except i added GoW to my list) and i was very disapointed. idc if you have 100 hardware changes with dual joysticks and free texting. i just want games! i have about 15 games for my DS and i still want more, but psp has like 11 good titles and i can't find anything else good unless i import it. please step it up this year and the next psp cuz im losing my faith in the whole sony brand

I don't think I'll buy this new PSP if Sony makes the mistake of including only one analog stick. I might as well stick with an iPhone for all my multimedia/gaming needs. I'm also curious as to what Sony has planned for the millions of fans who bought games and movies on UMD.......maybe a UMD Player add-on or something?

Sony will put dual joysticks on the next one. Then they can enable remote play for more PS3 titles because PS3/PSP will have the same controls. Imagine the 1-2 knockout that will do to the competition. Nirvana would be the ability to play blu-ray/DVD's via remote play. Please expand remote play capabilities Sony.

I am not buying this if it doesn't have dual analog sticks. That's why I didn't buy the first ones. Everything is just such a hassle without it . For example, I could never get the hang of moving around in shooting games because I was so used to moving with the left stick and looking with the right. I really don't understand at all why they're not having dual analog sticks.

I think it's Sony's savior. The PSP is dying and PS3 is dead. Everyone knows that the mobile market has more potential.

16 gigs wont be enough to store a library of games and other things such as videos and music. Sony should just do a 40 gig Flash hard drive. Apple did it, why cant sony?

technologyRules, Xbox 360 sales as of 29h april are over 30 million. i.e. nearly 50% more units sold than the PS3. For a company that dominated the last generation of console sales that is a massive failure for Sony and the PS3 is a major flop.

Many PS3s are bought solely as BluRay players which means an instant loss for Sony as they loose massive amounts of money on each console sold. Sony dont come near to the Xbox 360 attach rate of 8.3 games and 3.9 accessories sold per console. Microsoft are still selling more units than Sony and the gap is accelerating.

BluRay is also a relative flop with most consumers rejecting it in favour of the inevitable transition to streaming based distribution (e.g. Netflix HD on the box 360, Hulu, etc etc)

The inferior graphics chipset and hardware in the PS3 (e.g. no hardware scaler) have caused it to be a failure for high end gamers. Xbox 360 versions of games that are on both platforms almost always have the better graphics and run in higher resolutions with better antialiasing. Sony currently dont have anything close to Xbox Live either. The Playstation network is a poor substitute.

Microsoft also have a shorter product turnaround, and will be releasing their next generation console as market leaders in the HD console space before Sony do...

Wow, you seriously must be a X360 fanboy because your claims of

"The inferior graphics chipset and hardware in the PS3 (e.g. no hardware scaler) have caused it to be a failure for high end gamers. Xbox 360 versions of games that are on both platforms almost always have the better graphics and run in higher resolutions with better antialiasing. Sony currently dont have anything close to Xbox Live either. The Playstation network is a poor substitute. "

are as accurate as Sarah Palin's explanation of Economic Reform and Foreign Policy. I give you the aspect of 360s being bought almost 2-1 against the PS3 certainly can depict failure but lets looks at the real facts before touting your horn here.

1. The 360 was relased 1 full year ahead of the PS3 with some decent exclusives packaged with in light of Kameo, Forza 2 and and few others. Also bringing the "NEXT GEN GAMING EXPERIENCE" ahead of the PS3 to boot.

2. The pricing war between Sony and MS has always been won by MS due to their acceptance of rushing out a non-polished, hardware/software bug-filled system in order to eat up market share.

Example: The "RROD" situation of 06-07-08 (and some but fewer systems in 09) would MS to re-issue refurbished units (at the price of 100$ - 250$US for MS per unit) to many people in NA and around the world or if a person was out of warranty they would be forced to buy a new unit... (this affected me 2X costing me 0$ but adds 2 more consoles to my "owned list" according to XBOX Support)

Vs. My 600$ PS3 which was bought on Day 0 and has not been sent back for any repairs at all.

People don't only buy the PS3 for BluRay but it is a nice feature to have instead of having to buy a seperate 200-400$ BR unit, considering you get internet surfing capabilities, built in wifi G, backwards compatibility for PS2 games, a configurable linux installtion and a far more sophiticated interface for remote gaming, live TV and a social network that seems to mimic second life...(Home)

XBL is a great interface for gaming (hands down), but for all intersive purposes, that's what you get for the 50$/year premium.. Which if PSN was the same price, you would see the same if not better results as what they are capable of doing for FREE (yes 0$) is rather remarkable.

MS having a shorter product turnaaround? Well it's easy to produce crap with sprinkles in a short time..I'm sorry but it's the truth. The 360 Premium @ 250$-275$ is a 199$ Arcade with a 20GB HDD. An Elite is a 315$ - 400$ premium with a 120GB HDD and HDMI 1.1. Meanwhile you are still missing Wifi, and HD DVD (BR killed this a while back) capablitly. which adds 99$ + a former 150$ HD DVD Drive ...oh and don't forget XBL at 50$/year

So a 399$ 80 GB PS3 + 50$ for a 120GB HDD you can pop in yourself. = 450$ vs. a 315$ +99$ + 50$/year + former 150$ = 665$ ....yes the XBOX 360 is a better buy for sure.

Oh and let's not forget the ease of piracy for 360 games now, which also boosts the sales of 360s as when a firmware modified 360 is detected via XBL, the console (not the user) is banned, so quick fix, get another 199$ arcade console and modify it again and bring over your HDD and plug it in, then sell your modified, banned console on Ebay to someone who will not use XBL. Ah, gotta love those accurate sales numbers that have an error margin for this consitant reason for 360 sales.

Just as accurate as your statements richto....

And if you think I'm a fanboy of the PS3 persuasion...I am not. I own both consoles, a PS2, a PSP and the original XBOX and play my 360 more due to specific games like Lost Odyssey that are 360 Excl. look me up.... XBL: looneeii or PSN: looneeii.

Bluray isn't a flop, in fact the adoption rate is higher than it was for DVD.

Ok, from a electronics store clerk perspective, this unit will never hit the store shelves if there is no media to sale to the customer. Even if it dose, why would I encourage my customers to buy it. What reason would my customers have to come back to my department to look at software if this is their only entertainment device? Many of my customers who have gaming systems don't have the internet, let alone broadband either.

From I've got to have one perspective, this may indeed be my first PSP.

I am going to assume you could sell games on a memory card. They would probably assume not everyone will want to buy by only download.
