China already has a dual-SIM iPhone clone... Google the "i9 iphone" :-) It's basically a copy of the 1st-gen iPhone (i.e., before 3G & GPS) but has a bunch of stuff even the iPhone doesn't have... like an FM tuner, Java support, etc. Very well made and only costs like $100 in China.

The i9 is a "true" dual-SIM phone, meaning both SIMs can be active at one time. Most "dual SIM" phones can only have *one* SIM active, the with the other SIM on standby.

Nextel is a dual phone-number phone..... (with one sim) which is something entirely different but does the same thing pretty much.....

Dual sim phones have been popular in Asia for years, particularly in areas like Hong Kong where travel over the border to China used to (and often still does) mean switching carriers or incurring long distance charges.

Additionally, they are very popular with Hong Kong businessmen with a mistress that only calls the second sim card. An easy way for them to demarcate their love affairs, evidently.

Thats true. actually, dual sim phones also become popular in other areas in Latin America. these phones are from Shenzhen China, called " Shanzhai Mobile Phones" . see tons of them on something like this www.dual-sim-mobile-phone.com .

This would be VERY nice. I am tired of lugging my personal and work phone with me everywhere I go. Maybe this will start a trend.

I have been using a dual sim phone for two years. It's P168 made in china. Came my way via a kid that thought the phone was too much for him. Overall it was a good phone with many cool features, including a dual sim slot which I used briefly to transfer numbers between phones. Calling and features transferred seamlessly as well. After two good years the circuit board cracked and it wouldn't stay on, but I had abused it "real good". I was completely happy with it.

Google "KA08". It's a mini version of CECT i9. It would be a good choice if you don't need Java as it's smaller in size and cheaper while offerring "hot" dual-SIM capability. I've placed an order (via eBay). One of the reviews: http://ezinearticles.com/?KA08-Phone---Some-of-the-Standout-Features-of-This-New-Tiny-Clone&id=2202860

This might also allow the ability to have two phones with the SAME number(?)
Many people have expressed a need for this. (For example: married couples who have two phones, but would like one number. Or, those who would like to keep one phone at home and another in their car, at the office, etc...). The U.S. is REALLY so far behind in so many ways.

Nope, the other way around. Two numbers in one phone, hence the dual sim cards.

Try Google Voice. One number will ring on several phones, home, cell, office, spouse. . . .

Nothing new here.........location around the world already have this feature! and for almost 2 years.....You carry two different numbers and mail address. Hence you pay double substriction fees as well...

For those who need a dual GSM phone this one sounds cool. I'm a Sprint customer (CDMA) so I'm still waiting for Sprint to carry the Blackberry Storm hoping it will mirror the features of the 8830 which sports CDMA in the US but is an unlocked GSM that will work for me when I'm in Europe. On my most recent trip to the UK I ended up with a cheap pay as you go Nokia which I took to a local marketplace and got unlocked for 5 pounds, purchased a Libara SIMM card for 2 pounds, topped it off for 20 pounds and recieved an additional 10 pounds of credit and I was able to make calls back to the US for 4 pence a minute which comes to about 6 cents a minute in American money; it was actually cheaper to call back to the US than to call around in the UK but was still so much cheaper than using any service by US carriers who want to charge anywhere from $1.25 to $1.50 a minute plus a service charge and still try to make you feel like you're getting a deal. So come on Sprint, get the Blackberry Storm which is a dual CDMA and GSM phone. By the way, don't buy your Libara card until you get to the UK. Here in the US they cost about $40.00. I got mine for about 2 pounds but you can find them from 99 pences to 3 pounds in the UK.

dual sim phones are very common in India, but mostly they have been of those cheapo irritating and dangerous, chinese made.

Samsung commercially released a dual sim phone in 2008 here in India.
