As an avid Wii Tennis player I am very excited about the possibility of greater control over the accuracy of the remote. I only hope the addition works in more games than just the new sport resort.

The next 2 tennis games coming out for the Wii will support it, Virtua and Grand Slam.

looks like it could shoot a little life into my dust-covered wii, if resort is as good as wii sports (which i doubt)

Motion Plus will not improve motion control in prior games. Motion Plus adds rotational axis (roll/yaw/pitch). Prior games will not access these new inputs but only look at the former accelerometer inputs.

I'm pretty sure the original remote already has the ability to detect two of those axises, seeing how it already detects left-right tilt (roll) and forward-back tilt (pitch). I'm not so sure about yaw, maybe that's what it adds.

This is great news because now we can buy "MotionPlus Re-Mixes" of all of our Wii favorites.
Bet on it.

Any word on how if the battery life will change much? I presume there has to be a somewhat additional draw for this thing to work.

Well if it has a bad effect on battery life you can bet Nintendo will be right there with an add-on for it.

$50 for the game and attachment? Seriously? Looks like I won't be dusting off the Wii, nope not for $50 I won't.

Oh Please!!, most games cost $50 at release and a lot of ps3 and Xbox games cost $60. This game is bundled with the $20 attachment, so you're getting the game for $30 if Microsoft or Sony created a new accessory that they would bundle with a game, they would probably charge you $50 or $60 for the game and then charge more for the accessory.
by tcr071 April 16, 2009 1:38 PM PDT
Yeah but a game I would spend $60 on would offer more than a small collection of mindless mini games. I'm not paying $50 for a rehash of a game they didn't feel worthy to sell so they threw it in with the console. No thanks. I don't need the "upgrade" and the ability to "sword fight or right a jet ski" just isn't cutting it for $50. Need more bang for my buck.

what's really stupid is that i'm sure many games in the future will require this attatchment, so eventually i'll have to pick one up. nintendo continues the milking with these rediculous attatchments

Ha. And the PS3 continues to be the best $for$ gaming/entertainment system on the market. Just another reason why using original retail price to judge gaming systems is beyond stupid. Can someone please do a review that takes into account the additional monies that have to be spent AFTER the original purchase?

its just 20$
by tcr071 April 14, 2009 10:05 PM PDT
The thing that no PS3 fan has ever been able to grasp is that you don't NEED all that crap to play the Wii or even the Xbox 360. I can continue playing the Wii without ever purchasing that game or the add-on. If I don't want it I won't ever need it. The difference between Nintendo/Microsoft and Sony is that Sony thinks that you NEED/WANT all those features and forces you to buy them when in reality most people would much much rather have a cheaper price up front and buy additional features IF THEY WANT THEM. A lot of people don't want them and will never buy them.
by ark2612 April 15, 2009 7:28 AM PDT
First, I doubt anyone will just be buying 1 attachment. Second,You are fooling yourself if you think the attachment is only for Wii Sports 2 and all games going forward eventually.
by tcr071 April 15, 2009 11:25 AM PDT
The attachment will not be required to play future Wii games. I plan on purchasing exactly zero of these add-ons and will continue, somehow, to play the Wii and the games that come out. You are fooling yourself if you think Nintendo is going to sell 70 million of these things. They won't even sell one for every three consoles.
by paulimusmaximus April 14, 2009 6:48 PM PDT
I hate attachments. Why don't they make the attachment for controllers you already have, but also make a motion plus controller, so you don't have to have any attachments.

It's a great niche! Make you keep buying peripheral hardware as a requirement for new software.

You should add this cost to the price of the console!

There is no wonder how BIG N brings in the dough.

Most people that have a PS3 have a PC too. So why not use the PC for FPS and the like and have a Wii for a different flavor of gaming? Why have two boxes that do the same type of thing? I think the fact that the Wii is not so much like a PS3=Xbox=PC is a good selling point in itself.

Did anyone else fail to get the screenshots? I tried several refreshes and couldn't even get red X's or anything else to indicate they were supposed to be there. Just white space....

I can't stand attachments but Nintendo's money grab by releasing the motion box a month and a half before the first party release is just great. This way people who want to buy Tiger 10, or Sega's Tennis game will have to spend 20 bucks in order to play the game. A brilliant business move by the big N. It will probably work on me if I decide to play Tiger this year.

Somebody wake me up when Nintendo releases a sequel to Link's Crossbow. Best $19.95 Wii investment ever created.

I am just about finished with my Nintendo days, I've gotta' say.

And so it goes...These people CONTINUE to release products that are said to "enhance" my gaming experience on a regular basis. This constant milking consumers of their money needs to stop.

Here's an idea - think these things through before the device ships and make it right the first time. Funny how for a company that constantly releases new and improved consoles, equipment and attachments, they never seem to own up to releasing things prematurely or admit to any fault. The Wii remote was mediocre at best when it launched but was accepted because of the fact that it was innovative and new. No one gets it right the first time right? Wrong. Instead of rushing to market with things that need improvement why not a few more months in R&D to get it right, guys? It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they had this thing in hiding for ages now just ready to release for perfect timing with the new Wii Sports game to show how much of a benefit it is, and how amaizng they are for gracing us with a new product for our glorious Wii console.

This whole notion of them doing us a favor by releasing these things makes me nauseous. Admit it Nintendo, it's a money grab, it always has been, and we're wise to it. Release a polished product to begin with or none at all. Mario isn't getting another cent out of me until they stop with this ridiculous onslaught of crazy peripherals, add-ons and re-releases of things with only minor changes.

* Oh and for the record, I am a Wii owner, and this is in no way a fanboy, or biased comment - just an honest opinion of a tired consumer who is on his last nerve with our friends at Nintendo.*

Since the Wii has been out for years, what have you bought to "enhance" your Wii gaming experience? I've bought games, an extra wheel for Mario Kart and the Nyko charging station.
by tkazzee April 17, 2009 6:14 AM PDT
So, dont buy it. I am sure Nintendo will sell enough to justify it. They are in buisness to make money. I own a Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and there are alot of people who will and who wont buy this thing. SO WHAT!
by ryan_t_moreau April 17, 2009 7:44 AM PDT
@GreenSkunk

The comment was aimed towards Nintendo as a whole, with this sort of thing going on with all of their consoles, not just the Wii. Its been happening for years.

Zelda's got me by the balls. I guess I'll always be a Nintendo hardware buyer.

Nintendo certainly marches to the beat of a different drum. I agree with your statement in some sense -- it seems like Nintendo is always one or two steps behind everyone. When everyone moved on to discs, they stuck with carts. We're still stuck in Low-Rez Land.

Funny thing though, carts REALLY were better at durability and quicker access, they just lacked the capacity. Nowadays, the VG industry could go back to carts no problem with the chips available now. Discs DO NOT last like carts. We should go to flash memory. It would be more expensive to produce, but totally worth it.

Funny how history could just repeat itself.

On another note: I wish Nintendo would offer additional levels for purchase from the Wii Shop. I'm dying for more Link's Crossbow Training! Totally a steal at $20! Pick it up today! Try it -- and then, if you think you're good... search "Link's Crossbow" on Youtube and prepare to be humbled, schooled and amazed. Some scores and ability there will blow you away.

I remember dropping at least $20 on a memory "enhancement" for my N64. Was it worth it? No. C'mon, people. When was the last time you bought a $20 enhancement that did anything? They might as well be trying to sell this through infomercials.

Didn't that only work for 2 games? This already has 3 games coming out that support it within the next month. Not a fair comparison
by mild546 April 16, 2009 2:51 PM PDT
unfotunately that means that to play multiplayer you need to purchase 1 for each player.
