Comments on: Logitech to give PS3 Harmony Remote support

It appears as if Logitech is about to silence the complaints of thousands of Harmony and PlayStation 3 owners who are frustrated with the system's lack of an IR (infrared) port.

Agreed. It would be nice if they make an RF version of this same device, though I expect not . . . but still seems that an RF remote (Monster AVL 300 or Harmony 890) should be able to use logitect's new device with an RF emitter.

I already control my PS3 using my Harmony One Remote. I purchased the Nyco Blu-Wave remote, and then added the program codes available on Logitech's website. It's not perfect... For starters it takes up a USB slot, and I have not figured out where the "top menu" button may be hidden. Also, I wished that instead of "X" or the word "circle" the actual PS icon was available. Other than these nip picks everything works fine including powering off from the PS3 menu.

Agreed. I have the same set-up. Mildly cumbersome, but very functional.

Yup, I have the same setup with a series of commands in the shutdown sequence of the activity so that it automatically turns off when I press the off button on my 890 or switch activities so long as I'm anywhere in the XMB menu at the time. That said, I really want PowerOn and a cleaner PowerOff. If this is reasonably priced (which most IR to BT converters aren't, really), I'm all over this when it comes out.

Finally! I have the Harmony 880 and use my ps3 as my primary bluray player, I have been waiting a very long time for this. I hope the price is reasonable.

I have put off getting a Harmony remote because of this issue. I didnt want to spend the money on one without being able to use it as my sole remote for my TV, 360 and PS3. Hopefully I will be able to now!

I use the Harmony One remote with the Nyco adapter. Works fine. The only thing I can't do with the PS3 is turn it on remotely, minor inconvenience. Turning it off remotely is possible but somewhat cumbersome as you have to go through the menu to do it. All other functions work quite well. Hopefully this will be a reasonably priced "upgrade"

"I have put off getting a Harmony remote because of this issue."

Well I put off (read canceled) any intentions of buying a PS3 for this issue. I already own a Harmony 880 and thought about buying a PS3 to function as my blu-ray player, but due to the lack of this functionality Sony absolutely lost my business. I have a great Panasonic DMP-BD35k player now and love it. Paid $150 less for it too.

I dumped my Harmony remote for this and a general lack of usefulness that results when your set up doesn't "work" like the Harmony software thinks it should. Force fitting the software to get the job done proved to be a major PITA. Strange thing. The software never said it didn't work with the PS3. It happily set up and then did nothing.

Maybe I'll try it again when they actually release something that works with the PS3.

Thank God! I was beginning to think that I'd never be able to sync my Harmony One to my PS3. . . . . .

Seriously, I where do I order it? Don't make me wait! Way too long, but finally my Harmony One will be the only remote I need - it is really an awesome remote too, got mine at CC closing sale for $125!

I traded in old games and just got the one made for the PS3. It works good.

Gamers aside, the remote issue hurts PS3 sales because many people want brand compatibility with one remote. For those who consider the remote an issue, they might as well buy a competitor's BR player since they have to use yet another remote anyway.

I have the PS3 Bluetooth remote and I really enjoy the fact that I can take advantage of every function that the PS3 was created with. Yes, it does mildly suck to have to use two remotes when I want to watch a movie, but if you grab both remotes before you settle in for a movie, it's really fine.

I only use the remote when I watch a movie. When I game, I use the gaming controller. The point being, I dont always have to grab two remotes all the time, just when I want to watch a BD or DVD. My favorite thing about the BT remote is that I dont always have to be directly in front of the TV to use it. I have hosted parties and used my PS3 to play playlists of music and slideshows of photos and being able to use the BT was far more superior to IR technology.

Woo Hoo! But I wonder what the price will be?

Personally I was thinking of just duct taping my Sony PS3 remote to the underside of my Harmony. That way I can control both in one easy to hold remote *LOL*

what a waste -- so now I can make my PS3 as hamstrung by line-of-sight problems as all those other devices using antiquated IR "technology"?

Agreed, I won't get a universal remote that doesn't support a bluetooth->IR Bridge instead... that or IP->IR and Blutooth. So in the mean time, I will try to build it myself.
