You could buy like 100 actual books for that price.

I find the Kindle readable book prices ridiculously high. The marginal cost of distribution is vanishingly small, the investment in production etc. likewise. What appears to be going on is that the buyer is expected to pay the profit on the large investment in hard copy production for a product where he is the one who has invested in the alternative delivery technology, i. e. the Kindle.

I was just looking at a book which was about $15 in paperback and the Kindle edition was about $12.. No way!

The one place the e-book shines is the storage cost compared to a large number of hard copy books. On the other hand, what are the chances that I can pick up and re-read the Kindle edition twenty years from now? Tried to watch a Beta videotape lately?

Hopefully this new ebook reader will inspire other companies to develop better products, which will only be good for us, the consumers. Also, I'd imagine that in North America there's not much of a market for an ebook reader priced at > $500. Fujitsu definitely has to bring the price down when they start selling them here.

Price is not an issue. If one has the finances, you can purchase 50 units at 350 per unit and resell to interested buyers for half the retail price. No doubt some people will be doing this.
