Comments on: Sony's PSP 'virtual console' in the works

Sony's Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller says that Sony plans to expand its digital catalog to include non-PlayStation console titles as well as back-catalog games from the PlayStation One console.

Fantastic. The lack of tons of stuff to buy and download has been one of my few annoyances with my PS3. While the Xbox 360 allows you to buy full Xbox original games, Sony has had only a few PSone games, usually the really old stuff.

I realize that there is more money in remaking an old game with new graphics, but there are plenty of old games out there, some of which never even made it to the states, that a lot of people would be more than happy to buy, or rebuy in some cases.

I don't want to buy a PS1 game that I've already bought 10 years ago. I don't own the PSP (PS1 and PS3), but if a new PSP model came out with good improvements then I might be tempted.

This is long overdue. Ever since they gave direct access to the PS Store on the PSP, it's been very underwhelming. I would welcome some PS1 releases, but what I would really like to see is some more original content for the thing! A lot of stuff that's been released for the PS3 could easily be ported, if all original won't work. Throw us a bone!!!

I couldn't care less about PS-One games, but I can hardly wait to have access to a catalogue of old retro games! I'd love to be able to play Pac Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Star Wars, Tron, etc. Crossing my fingers!

if this really happens to the degree of how nintendo's virtual console offering then this could definitely give the PSP a lot of momentum. only thing is the entire nintendo and xbox libraries couldn't be offered. so the game selection would be pretty limited. but there's quite a few sega genesis games i'd like to download. maybe some tecmo super bowl so i can start a season and lead the league with 152 sacks by my nose tackle!

This could actually bring me back to playing games on my PSP. Currently I use it every day with the LocationFree player and Remote Play with the PS3, but I can't remember the last time I played a game. I would probably carry it with me everywhere if I could keep some games I enjoy on the memory stick.

What I really want is PS2 games to download and play on the PS3 but I'll take what I can get for now. :)

Lond overdue indeed. There are quite a few PSOne games that have not been ported that would easily put the psp back on the portable map for me, just so much untapped greatness.

This is old news. I wish that cnet.com was able to stay on top of their technology information. If you want to see some relevant news I'd check out engadget.com. Engadget.com really knows how to capture everything you need to know about technology in a relevant manner.
