Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
As for their regular home electronics...same old same old. LOTS of competition there, and frankly Pioneer really doesn't stand out...they seldom ever have, in the 40 years that I've shopped that brand.
I've had a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma for 4 years- I paid $6000 for it when a 50" Panasonic plasma was selling for about $4000. The reason I bought the Pioneer is because to me it clearly had a superior picture over the Panasonic. There has been about 6 new generations of Pioneer 50" plasmas since then and many new generations of Panasonics. My model- 1120- still gets wows from people when they see it. It has a brighter and sharper picture than any Panasonic I've ever seen. It's a sad day for videophiles that Pioneer is going to stop producing plasmas.
To me the Panasonics have a very soft and darker picture. Panasonic makes a great product and I've recommended it to many of my friends who didn't want to spend the extra money on a Pioneer. All of them are quite happy.
I have a friend who has a large wine cellar and appreciates an expensive bottle of wine- for me it's a waste. I'd rather buy a mid-priced bottle since I can't taste the difference.
You can't go wrong with either company- if you want the best the Pioneer has no peer.
One night several months ago I had a group of buddies over to watch the UFC on ppv. Most of my friends own either plasma's or lcd's themselves, and every single one of them said that they've never seen a better picture in their life watching on my set.
This is the quality Pioneer delivers, it's a shame they did price themselves out of the market. Price is a huge consideration for anybody, but I felt the extra $1000 I paid over the Panasonic I was looking at was worth it to me.
I hope I will own a Pioneer later as the prices are lower every year.
Is there is any way to keep Pioneer inspiring the business.
