Comments on: Pioneer confirms that it's leaving the TV business

The Japanese manufacturer plans to consolidate its focus on home theater and car electronics. It expects to slash 10,000 jobs (6,000 full-time, 4,000 part-time) as a result.

it seems (to me anyway) that people are too stupid when it comes to shopping. best buy price matched amazon.com for me (and i didnt have to twist anybodies arm, all i did was ask) and i paid $500 more for the 60in kuro than the 800u, which was my other choice. i know its subjective, but to me the 500 belinnis was worth it for what i consider to be the better product. not better by a HUGE margin, but better nonetheless. just shop smarter and quit complaining about the little bit of xtra money. the people here that are stating that the pioneers are 50million bucks more than the pannys and sammys and sonys are getting annoying and voiding all credibility.

Car audio? You have GOT to be kidding me. There's no profit in it, not with so many of the car manufacturers going away from standard fitments like DIN chassis units and instead using proprietary systems and convergence with other systems, like ventilation and even engine management. The only hope Pioneer's got in that market is that they do will with OEM. Frankly, "Pioneer" just doesn't have the same cache and sex appeal as "Mark Levinson" or "Dynaudio" or "Bowers+Wilkins"...or even (gasp) Bose.

As for their regular home electronics...same old same old. LOTS of competition there, and frankly Pioneer really doesn't stand out...they seldom ever have, in the 40 years that I've shopped that brand.

EAST COAST TV'S

Why people insult others in these forums boggles me. I guess internet muscles is the new way cowards attack each other.

I've had a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma for 4 years- I paid $6000 for it when a 50" Panasonic plasma was selling for about $4000. The reason I bought the Pioneer is because to me it clearly had a superior picture over the Panasonic. There has been about 6 new generations of Pioneer 50" plasmas since then and many new generations of Panasonics. My model- 1120- still gets wows from people when they see it. It has a brighter and sharper picture than any Panasonic I've ever seen. It's a sad day for videophiles that Pioneer is going to stop producing plasmas.

To me the Panasonics have a very soft and darker picture. Panasonic makes a great product and I've recommended it to many of my friends who didn't want to spend the extra money on a Pioneer. All of them are quite happy.

I have a friend who has a large wine cellar and appreciates an expensive bottle of wine- for me it's a waste. I'd rather buy a mid-priced bottle since I can't taste the difference.

You can't go wrong with either company- if you want the best the Pioneer has no peer.

Panasonics 50-800u $1995--$2495 nice plasma I like it but there's alot of people complaning about a flicker issue .I call panasonic and !!yadi,yadi,yadi,!!--I found EAST COAST TV'S--out of Edison NJ,-2 hours from where I live.I purchase the Pioneer 5020 for $1811.with free delivery, you can pay when the TV gets delivered. Panasonic has a 54 inch coming out in the summer, the tech said it's flicker free.So I figure the pioneer in the living room-----The panasonic in the finish basement. Hope I can affort it

Well as a Pioneer plasma owner I have to say this announcement is disappointing. I know the competition out there is stiff and Panasonic makes some excellent plasma's as well, but I have owned my Pioneer Kuro for over a year now and I'm simply blown away by the quality of th epicture.

One night several months ago I had a group of buddies over to watch the UFC on ppv. Most of my friends own either plasma's or lcd's themselves, and every single one of them said that they've never seen a better picture in their life watching on my set.

This is the quality Pioneer delivers, it's a shame they did price themselves out of the market. Price is a huge consideration for anybody, but I felt the extra $1000 I paid over the Panasonic I was looking at was worth it to me.

I bought an 800 Panasonic 50" rather than the pioneer because it was within my budget, I know that Pioneer is the best TV manufacturer in quality of product and picture.
I hope I will own a Pioneer later as the prices are lower every year.

Is there is any way to keep Pioneer inspiring the business.

People should buy what looks good to their eyes and carry a reference DVD as the source when shopping. Research reviews such as found here help a lot but must be weighed with other factors. I will never buy another Panasonic product due to bad customer service experience with the manufacturer over a product that looked good but was constructed with low end components which didn't last.

Looking for the best TV... Plasma or LED.... If someone finds a Pioneer now with the company going out of bus. what recourse or repair aspects would there be?
