hmmmm... ok i have the playstation 3 XD and the 3box 360 with the hd-dvd side drive! so my question is this... the playstation 3 is a very quiet system and the 360 (not trying to diss the systeem lol) is EXTREMELY loud when it comes to watching a movie with the added drive. no is this blu ray drive going to make the system just as loud or are we stukk with a loud @$$ game system?

I work for Microsoft tech support. I'll keep it single and short....ALL FACTS from MS and SONY per our meetings.
360 advantage / ps3 advantage
x Quietness
x Durability
x Controls
x Options
x Replay value

Basically, yes the ps3 has most features in one. but thats because they had a whole year to get it together.
XBOX live is enough to give ms the edge. This is the MOST telling option for long term. Sony fans need more convincing?
BILL GATES ! unlimited money ...add ons will live on.. Its all about options and MS delivers on it. You people keep saying how microsoft is expensive with services, but that money gets thrown back into rotation for more services. Why do people go to baskin robbins? because there are more selections, more options to the consumer. I like to have that right, to choose what i want. Stop complaining about price, grow up and get a job. Im independent and get paid, and laid, throw in extra bucks to entertain yourself and friends, you act like a gun is to your head.
Sonys advantage so far, is blu ray internal. But this will change. the xbox complaint is its loud, rrod,, but thats a small percentage. Ive had mine since launch and no probs.
You get what you pay for, xbox live service is not free, but its way better,
ps3s live service is free but slow and one dimensional. Games are even, and everything else is advantage to xbox360.
controls for ps3 are TERRIBLE.!! same old buttons. joysticks are garbage ..enough said ,,,,,,,,,,,,,no competition.

"ps3s live service is free but slow and one dimensional."

Lets see....

Xbox 360: The Xbox Experience [wii-avatar-rip-off]
Playstation 3: HOME [complete online world with realistic avatars]

FACT IS: The typical Xbox 360 owner is uneducated on the facts.

I'm confused.
I bought an x-box 360 so my son could play games and I could watch dvd's.
Now netflix has movies you can watch on your tv if you have an x-box and a gold subscription.
I want to get a blu-ray player, so should I get the blu-ray player or not? If MS comes out with their own add-on it sounds like it would be the cheaper option, but who knows how long, if ever, that will take? And I'm kind of naiive about all this but does watching netflix through a blu-ray player have any effect? Can it even be done if not a part of x-box? Any help greatly appreciated.

have you noticed that instead of upgrading there console sony have decided to take away features LIKE CARD READERS AND PS2 COMPATABILLITY and still charge the same price but microsoft are upgraDING THERE FEATURES AND DECREASING THE PRICE and if you do get the rrod just send it away i got mine back in 1 week and the new xboxes have reduced failure rates and the controllers on ps3s are just horrible they really do suck and it would still be cheaper to buy this

Wait, wait one second....

So, let me get this straight. Microsoft first charges consumers for an external HD-DVD drive. That obviously goes down the drain with the win for Blu-ray. Now they want to charge $150 for another external drive? I would like to know how much a typical Xbox 360 owner has paid with all the add-ons that Sony's Playstation 3 already possesses. This is hilarious!

I am sure Microsoft is hard at work trying to figure this out. I don't see them staying ahead of the Playstation 3 after 2009. Game developers are barely starting to figure out what the PS3 can actually handle. Once they do, there is nothing Microsoft can do to take the lead again. Well, I guess they could always release a Xbox 720 for another $300 or more. [haha]

Microsost is probably laughing their way to the bank at all these Xbox consumers who fall for their "add-ons."

The Xbox 360: "Just one more add-on."

Sorry but it would be a huge waste of money. Once they manufacture them which would cost thousands of dollars and then, who would buy them?

xbox may charge money for xbox live but its way better than the playstation do some research. and xbox may have it's brick but at least the console is not ******* huge like the ps3. and the only reason the xbox 360 dint put the wifi is because with all the features that the xbox has it would cost alot more than your f. ps ****. and you dont have to disconnect the console to turn the fans off. dumass i bet you havent even played with a 360.

I'm a long time MSFT fanboy. Other Engineers at work sometimes call me "Bill Gates Jr".

As much as I love MSFT, Windows7, etc, it doesn't take a genius to see that the PS3 is a superior machine. I am still very excited about my XBox360 because of the Natal project....

The XBOX fanbois keep saying the Xbox live network is way better than the PS network. No one ever says why they think it's better. Please tell me, what is so great about it? I'll admit that the Playstation network used to be much slower, but they upgraded it big time and it's still free. Besides, even if they hadn't upgraded the PS Network, they didn't really have to because most of the data transfers don't actually go through the PS Network. The PS3 works more like a PC in that regard.

Some of you are saying the PS3 controllers are crap. Are you kidding me? The XBox controllers are crap when compared to the PS3 SixAxis controllers.

Built-in Blu-Ray is certainly better than purchasing an external player for approximately the same system cost. It has huge advantages including the fact that you can actually play games off of it and those games can have much more content in them.

PS3's processor is indisputably more powerful which allows the PS3 to deliver superior physics and video quality.
PS3 has built in WiFi. Who wants to route an Ethernet cable to the back of their entertainment center?
PS3 can stream 1080p content off of my PC and has at least as good, if not better, compatibility with MSFT's own media sharing features in WMP.

You will ask, "If the PS3 is so great, why is the XBox selling more units". This is actually a simple answer... The people purchasing XBox units are usually not the people that are using them. Kids play the XBox and their parents don't want to spend a lot of money on a gaming box. Their parents don't realize at the time of purchase that they will be milked for a monthly XBox Live fee and an overpriced WiFi card and an overpriced Blu-Ray player and an overpriced...... Adults purchase a PS3 for their own use because they actually care about the quality of their media experience and they take the time to research and purchase the better unit.

Even after all of that, I still enjoy my XBox 360 for some of the titles that aren't available on the PS3 and I'm extremely excited about Natal. I just wish that Natal was developed by Sony so I could use it on my PS3.

When will this come out? I'm saving for a 160 GB PS3. Should I keep saving or wiat for the blu-ray external drive for the 360? is this a for sure thing or just a rumor?

For all of the fan boys here: Both systems have advantages the other one doesn't. Microsoft is currently working on narrowing the advantages of the PS3 and maximizing those of the 360. While many previous posters have stated this already, I must agree. Yes the PS3 has a better processor, but it is under utilized. It might be better in X amount of years when it is fully utilized to it's maximum output, but for now, it is level with the 360. And before you guys go off about graphics, get a simple fact right. PS3 has 1080p quality, HOWEVER, it is too expensive for PRODUCERS of video games to utilize that ability. Certain titles play at native 1080p quality, most on the other hand, for both consoles, remain at a native 720p quality. Thank you.

Does it make much of a difference? Inside six months blu-ray players are going to drop in price so much, why would anyone want to spend more than they have to just so it connects to the 360?

MS missed the boat on this one, and choosing basically a Beta opposed to a VHS.
