this just proves the point that Apple has some hardware issues which most likely consists of a batch of some components that were not up to par yet they were used in the device. Maybe they didn't know, maybe they didn't care. I've been using this thing since Day 1 (July 11) and no matter where I go I get zero maybe 1 bars on 3G. This includes a 250 miles corridor along I-10 where, according AT&T there is mass 3G coverage. The 2.1 FW upgrade did nothing to address the 3G coverage issue, the only thing I noticed is the faster backup, and installing of apps, as for crashes, Safary regularly freezes on even web pages that have nothing but text. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone, I just want to get the most out of it and have a user experience the way it was advertised.

It helped. But I still get plenty of failed calls. I'd say it went from over 70% of calls failing (with 3G enabled) to approx 20%. Improvement, but unacceptable in terms of what we expect from a PHONE.

Ok. Here are some problems that I have found with the 3G.

The first pertains to texting. Don?t get me wrong, it is great how it is set up. You can have multiple chats going on, each within their own window. I am very fond of it. The problem that I have is that I cannot review all of the dates and times. If I sent a message to one person this morning, say 5 am, and they didn't respond until 11 am, I would like to be able to know that. Instead, it seems like my phone decides when a text is important enough to receive a date and time marking. I should be in control of when my phone tells me what I want to know. I don't need my phone trying to overpower me.

Another problem that I have found is the call history. Let?s say that there is a particular call, number, person, etc. that I would like to remove from my call history. In order to do so, I have to clear the entire call history. What?s the deal? I just wanted to delete one! Now my entire call history is gone.

Oh wait, I forgot to mention a problem with text messages. Well, more commonly referred to as multimedia messages. Can?t send them? All I want to do is send a picture to a friend?s cell phone. Quick and easy process?.. Usually anyway. Now I have to access e-mail from the phone, which isn?t a big problem. Then I have to try to find the e-mail address of the person that I am trying to send the picture to. And that?s if they can access e-mail from their phone. Then I have to walk them through how to do it. Then, blah blah blah. Good grief!! Okay, so a friend sends a picture to your phone?. Easy enough right? NO!! It seems that the picture gets put somewhere and you are sent a link. With a username and password (which both are impossible to remember) and you can access it for 7 days! What?s wrong here?

The volume on the phone is pretty ridiculous. If you are in a quite environment it sounds great. Add just a little noise in the room and you will be lucky to hear the phone ring at all. Well hey, just put it on vibrate! The vibrate feature in general is great, but on the iPhone, you can hardly feel it!

The battery life is better? If there has been any difference in the performance of the battery it is worse. Most certainly not any better.

Alarm clock/Calendar- I have grown very comfortable using my phone as an alarm clock. I have always set it to go off at a certain time every morning and it has worked great! I always use the Calendar. If there is a reason that I don?t need to go off on a particular day, I go to that particular day and delete it, or change it to whatever I need it to be. Otherwise dates and times are recurring. Well, if I use Calendar on my iPhone, I have to use this quiet alarm that I can?t even change. It hardly makes any noise at all, and I certainly can?t wake up to it. Though, if I use the alarm clock I can change the sound. I set it to a song that is loud and I can?t oversleep! That?s great, but it is either on or off. That?s it. I can?t set special days or times that are coming up three weeks from now without changing my whole setup. I wish that this could be fixed.

E-mail, I love how I can access it from my iPhone. I use g-mail. I can, from my computer, move an e-mail message to 1, 2, 3, or as many folders that I have set up. When I use my iPhone to check my mail, it comes in great! But, I can only move it to one folder. Sometimes, I have a message that will apply to more than one folder and would like to be able to move it accordingly.

Apple loves to advertise and play up how if you turn the phone on it's side, the screen will adjust and go from vertical to horizontal. Pretty cool, huh? What Apple doesn't tell you is that this feature ONLY works for Web browsing. This does NOT work for any other application, including maps, texting, e-mail, phone, etc. Why haven't they fixed this? This should have been in version 1.0. Here we are with 2.1 and the iPhone still does not work as implied in the advertisements.
