I'm not positive, but I believe that the Netflix website offered a november launch date as well.

I think November is the worst case scenario, they have to get it out before the Christmas rush. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out in October.

Who cares after 3 x boxes dying on me I am tired of supporting a company that wants to get by on the consumer.

I agree Hi-Def88. I'm on number three and if this one craps out i'll be at my limit as well.
by tcr071 September 24, 2008 4:40 PM PDT
I guess by "getting by on the consumer" you mean voluntarily offering every single person who purchased an Xbox 360 a three year warranty? I can see how that would tick you off and make you not want to support that company.

I sure wish this console DIDN'T have this free three year warranty.

can someone clear up the "3 year warranty" ? is it just the RROD issue?

what did they give a 3 yr warranty on? and where is it documented?
i would like to know being a 360 user.

If your xbox keeps breaking or broke u prolly did something to mess it up. I've had mine for 3 years and haven;t done anything special and never once has it broken. take responsibility. People do the same thing with i pods too, re-re's

I used to feel the same as you. I had a launch model until December last year. I never moved it, it always sat in an open area, not on a carpet, and I just played games on it. Then I got the RROD. They replaced it, and the new one was in the same situation (free air flow, no blocked vents, only played games) and it stopped outputting video last month. Now I'm on my third system.

November is actually a good time to do this. Gears of War 2 is coming out and it would go well to coincide with the Xbox relaunch.

"If your xbox keeps breaking or broke u prolly did something to mess it up"...lol. Right. I'm sure that the 33% of people out there who have had th RROD were just trying to play too many darn games. It's really their fault.

"I sure wish this console DIDN'T have this free three year warranty." - you probably SHOULD. The fact that MS extended the warranty out to three years shows personal accountability, and that's nice and all. However, instead of praising them for extending the warranty out and replacing the machine two or three times for people who have gotten repeated RRODs (my friend has had 3 - the second one happened within one week of getting it returned - and no, it wasn't his fault), perhaps you should put a little more effort into questioning WHY they had to extend the warranty in the first place.

Sorry for your experience, man this does suck. Question? Did they replace all those 360's for you? Any hassles in the replacement process? Now as I mentioned in a later post the reason given for this problem was the desire to pus hthe 360 out before PS3 and Wii to get marketshare. Not enough testing would be my conclusion from that. MS did admit this being the case though and sent out an apology to the gmaers affected. They futher set aside 10 billion for the warranty effort. Enough action I concluded that I decided to go ahead with a 360 Hall Edition in September of last year. Now Mine has given me unempeded service since I got it, so I am very pleased.
I hope your experiences get better. I do believe MS is really concentrating on customer experience unlike anytime in their history and this action from a badly delivered console goes to show that.

Maybe my eyes were fooling me, but when I saw this same add on my xbox, it said "coming this fall". The word november was nowhere to be seen.

can someone, maybe TCR071 clear up the 3 yr warranty?

when did they announce a 3 yr warranty, and what does it cover? just the RROD? or what?

This was announced last year July I believe. The admitted they pushed the 360 out too soon to gain marketshare, made an apology for the disruption and set aside 10 billion, yes that is with a B, for the future warranty issues. My opinion yeah I think that shows they care about his market, so I bought a Halo Edition 360. Coincidently this came with the upgraded chip to 65mm. No problems at all with mine.
by Grifter02 September 25, 2008 10:25 AM PDT
To answer the question: Yes, the extended warranty ONLY covers RROD, all other problems are still on 1-year warranty.

Xbox's do break however if you are on number 3 either you have really bad luck or you are not providing ventilation. I have seen it to many times when people put their xbox on top of their receiver or in a cramped concealed space and wonder why it breaks...you mind as well put it on the stove. I am not saying that you broke your xbox's but I have seen too many people place it in an entertainment cabinet with poor ventilation and wonder why they don't last.

i am on number 5...first 4 were pro units, 5th is an elite. all in same area, well vented, in fact right in front of an A/C duct. heat isnt option for a defective in my house anyway....just poor product at start of launch. i STILL to this day wouldnt consider a PS3. too many advantages of a 360.

live is down Monday for a preliminary upgrade for the fall update. it will happen in november as they say.

themes and gamerpics will still be there, but they wont tell us how they will be used.....all of us that bought them in the past will be able to use them so its not a useless purchase, but i think the update will make them useless in a sense
by perontopsp September 25, 2008 9:37 AM PDT
Idk live is supposed be down on Monday allday. And won't come back in operation untill tuesday. And the message they sent to live's members also hinted at the new expierence. So it may even be aviable on this Tuesday. I hope so.

Yes, That update will shutdown Xbox live for One day.. That update will not add anything new to the Existing Dashboard, Its just getting ready for the NXE... I dont know if its tweaking but yea... The XBL 24 Shutdown is only preparation for the New dashboard..

I wonder, what will happen to Themes and Gamerpics? Are they gone, or are they staying?

Your Themes and Gamer Pics can still be used in the NXE. I read that in a GameInformer Magazine. so dont worry you can still use your thems and Pics. A new Feature in the NXE is that you get to Preview your Theme and GamerPics when you Download them.

So, the RROD thing... I have owned 2 360s (1st one was stolen along with the rest of my ish) and I have had the RROD exactly ONE TIME. It was on 99Nights or whatever that game was and I was fighting probably 200 or so charging baddies. I was somewhat frustrated, restarted the console and continued on my way and never had another issue. So, all these people that freak out and flame MS for the RROD, I wonder how many of them are crying about a single stinking RROD??? Like a 1 time restart? Are you kidding me? I mean I remember having to reboot the old PS1s and 2s pretty frequently. Pretty much every ps2 I've ever played on froze from time to time. Is a 1 time restart really what everyone always cries about? Or is this 33% failure rate everyone always spews on about a permanent bricking as in it doesn't work anymore? Cause most of the guys I know have never had issues either so I'm just curious where the other 33% are...

Well there is another whiner about their 360 going out. I have had mine for over 2 years. It stays updated and in its own ventilated cabinet. I have a 5" fan extracting the hot air out of the cabinet. I also do not subject it to marathon gaming. It's just like the people whining about Vista. I have 3 laptops running Vista, two premium and one basic. Once again i keep them all updated with the latest drivers and patches. I dont download porn or torrents and lo and behold i have never had a problem with any of them, i have had vista since Jan 08 and have not had one single lock up or issues with printers etc. I have owned almost every video game system since the days of Nintendo 8bit cartridge, heck i even had the old pong with the paddles. All you have to do is look after your stuff. In the manual it states you must provide adequate ventilation. (as does amost every electronic device)..guess what this is for...thats right to ensure the unit doesnt over heat!!!! wow what a concept a manufacturer telling the consumer how best to look after the product. and, i agree with the last post by "Benderhatesyou" I too remember both my PS1 and PS2 locking up frequently....i sure dont remember Sony ever extending a warrenty to help the consumer out.

Microsoft has provided video instructions detailing the actions required of you if you are the owner of Xbox Live.

I've got legit problems with my xbox and it's really getting on my nerves... My original system, after about a year, when i'd turn it on it would be very loud and make funny noises. most of the time i'd get 1 red light on player 4 with an E68 hard drive error. i'd let it run for a minute, turn it off and back on then it would work fine. about 4 months later (1 yr & 4 months into ownership) i get the RROD. i speak with xbox, they replace it no problem, no charge. they sent me a new system (refurb) and within a week i was getting the funny sounds and occasionally i still got the E68 message. Shortly after I started getting disc read error in the middle of my games. it's really frustrating while in the middle of the game to have it cut off w/ disc read error and take me back to the dashboard. i have my console in an ent. center but i have a fan on the back of the box pulling warm air out of the ent center. any time i have it on i open the glass on the ent ctr to make sure there's enough air flow. this disc read error happens to every game i own (about 25). all of my games are either in the xbox or in the case on the bookshelf. i keep them in excellent condition so i know it's not the actual disc. my friends bring games over and theirs does the same thing. when i take my discs to another xbox, there's no problem at all. so over the weekend i call xbox to get the system replaced. i wait on hold for 10 minutes saturday just to have the lady tell me she can't pull up any accounts, call back in 24 hours. (she was also extremely difficult to understand, which has never been a problem so it leads me to believe xbox recently outsourced all their customer support calls). so i call back 24 hours later, the guy pulls up my info and tells me my box is out of warranty and it will cost me $99. i unleash on this guy (another foreigner, very difficult to understand) til he finally transfers me to a supervisor. i go off on the supervisor explaining that it's horrible business practice to replace a defective product with another defective product then tell me i owe another $99 to get the 2nd defective product replaced. so finally he offers to give me a 75% discount on the repair which still has me paying $25. he says his phone support dept is only allowed to offer up to a 75% discount on the repairs. so finally he gives me an address where i can send a letter to fight my case. so he gives me a physical addresss to the xbox legal dept and tells me to write a letter and send it to them. EFFING B.S.!!! i am going to send a letter but i seriously doubt i will hear back within the 30 day window that he gave me to take the 75% discount so i will probably end up dropping another 25 plus shipping to the bastards. i just think it's ridiculous with the over $2000 that i've spent on the console, controllers, accessories, games, xb live, etc that they're still tring to rip me off for another 100 bucks and i had to yell at them for 45 minutes just to get it down to $25. i just can't believe how this whole world revolves around microsoft products yet they continually take advantage of the gaming industry in order to squeeze every last penny out of us. BASTARDS!!

oh and about the original nintendo- i still have mine plus about 15 games in my closet. i could pull it out right now and the thing would fire right up, and i've had it for over 20 years. i know the technologies are way different but you would think that with all of the advancements in gaming technology that they would also be able to make advancements in the components used to make these newer systems.

ive got 2 xbox 360's and the reason is is because one of them dont friggin work.i got the RROD about 6 months after i bought it.i really wasnt worried about the RROD happening to me until it happened to a friend of mine, then for about a month i was crossing my fingers every time i turned it on.the night it happened i called xbox and the guy, which i could barely understand, asked me to look on the back and see when the console was built.it read 11-22-2006.the guy then proceeded to tell me that my console was part of a "bad batch".so apparently when i bought it it was already a refurb repackaged and sent back to retailers for re-sale.i asked about the warranty through microsoft and he explained to me that it was out of warrant due to the manufacture date.what a load of BS.this was back in Feb 08.i wanted a new one anyways with HDMI, so i waited a few weeks when my tax return came in and bought a new one with a 2yr extended warranty through walmart and the 3yr warranty with MS.So far its working great, I play call of duty 4 online every night and i have the xbox on the top shelf of my entertainment center so it has PLENTY of ventilation. i think that as long as it has enough breathing room and not near anything that gives off a good amount of heat you'll be fine, even if you have it on constantly(like me).

i've had 2 xb's myself , one a so called " bad batch " which lasted literally 2 months before rrod. Sent it back to ms also got a refurb, surprise surprise rrod. And yes it was well ventilated heard too many horror stories to not take chances. microsoft are making a killing of us guys and only now do they offer a 3 year warrenty ( thanks guys ) . I've now purchased a pro model with hdmi and is only 3 months old, had no problems whatsoever. These newer models are completely redesigned inside so hopefully the dreaded rrod is now a thing of the past. Buy one with hdmi. You can't go wrong, just make sure its well ventilated.
