Agree with the specification comments made here.As a premium offer, Apple's MacBook Air and MacBook Pro should have more then one or two USB ports, include a card reader, and HDMI port given Apple's MSRP. Blu Ray would be a bonus for those who want to play DVD's in the current standard .

ROI is a factor for the masses and not just "Apple disciples?"

In many ways,Apple products have become a status symbol due to that "must have" factor;Christmas inventory, and back orders of various products support this.

The decision to even consider a Mac became clearer after the lack of interoperability I experienced with 64bit Vista...Almost picked up a MacBook Pro myself ,but without the desired specifications/features.I decided to wait as Apple's O/S wasn't enough of a motivation for my overall needs.

That'll be the day that Apple actually lowers prices to what they ought to be. They have many Apple-converts out there willing to pay more for the hardware than it is worth. Status symbol? Gimme a break. Every time I see someone plugging along on their Apple at the coffee shop, I think, "hey that's a pretty good looking laptop," but then remember that they paid 2x to 3x as much for their machine that does the same thing my Toshiba does just as well. The new lightweight netbooks make the Air Book look really overpriced. $1700? Gimme a break.

As a individual who is in the market for a new laptop, I have to agree with Placebo1985. Macbooks use for the most part all the same parts as its pc laptop counterparts. The only real difference is the OS. The apple OS is great and all, but not worth a 40% increase in price. For this reason the macbook is currently my #4 choice on possible new purchase. It is behind the Sony Vaio FW, HP dv5t and Dell XPS. I can upgrade to all the premium upgrades on these units and still end up in most cases a few hundred less then the midlle of the road macbook. This is before you add a 20-30% discount code added at checkout or $200 off $999.00 or higher HP units. The Bottom of the line Macbook is an absolute joke for the price Apple is asking for it.

I was looking for a Notebook for school. I had it narrowed down between Apple Macbook pro 15inch. Alienware M15X, and the ASUS G50. All were 15 books. I had the base Macbook pro at $1999 while my Alienware which I bought was $2100 Which has the NVidia 8800GTX card, smartbay battery I have gotten over 8 hours of battery life typing a paper. Both have back lit keyboards and a base 8600GT. And the Alienware is still cheaper by $400. And Alienware is way overpriced, a new Asus M50Vm cost around $1250 with more every thing, Ram, Graphics, Hard drive, extras. I am very happy with my M15X and glad I didn't buy the way overpriced Apple.
