Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
My wish list for the new Tivo:
- Keep the Ethernet port standard. if they want to add wireless or usb, fine. But please keep the Ethernet port
- Classic interface preferred. If they can make any improvements, fine but please don't change it just because DirecTV thinks it would be cool. The classic Tivo interface works
- Add/improve universal remote features for the tivo remote. The Tivo remote is awesome. I would prefer to put the other remotes in the drawer and just use the Tivo remote. Provide the option of assigning controls to individual devices instead of in groups. For example, with my current Tivo remote I can either choose to control my Sony TV or my Sony reciever (STR-DE695) but not both. The entire control group can only be assigned to one remote code. So either I can turn the tv on or off or I can adjust its volume, not both. It would be nice to be able to split these functions. Would be nice to have a few buttons I can assign to whatever I want (within reason) like headphone on/off (my TV has a headphone button that mutes the speakers and turns on the wireless headphones), cc, surround modes on the receiver, etc.
- Amazon unbox is nice but Netflix is even better. The spec for their interface is now easily available
- Don't skimp on the processor. It may run fast today but what happens after a few software upgrades?
Again, great news!
Tivo = ads I don't want, a non-functional remote, and a backwards company that thinks people crave the decade-old technology that they continually refuse to advance. No thanks. Suck it, Tivo.
Does anyone know?
GREAT way to hype the company, John P. Falcone! Next time, let them BUY ads from Buzz Out Loud!

- I've been a DTV customer since 1998, had the TiVo DVRs, and had the HD TiVo too. I loved it and couldn't let go of it until DTV forced me to leave it behind. At first I didn't like the new DTV DVRs but I've become used to them, and after many of their updates I've come to like them. The only feature that will get me to leave the DTV DVRs behind is the ability to stream recorded shows from one DVR to another.
