Pretty simple. Just wait and see if Apple are sending out lawyer's letters to have those pictures removed. If Apple is indeed sending out letters, then the leaked pictures are most likely legit. If not, it's most likely fake.

I can't believe the amount of BS Hype that gets created over crApple's overpriced, obsolete-out-of-box junk. Obviously most people buy into the hype created by craApples BS advertisements,CNET etc. rather than doing basic research into what HP, Sony, DELL, AlienWare, etc are selling at half the price.

And, the Apple's claim that its crap is immune to hackers, viruses, and crashing are all abslolute fraudulent claims...look at the news - right now there is a DNS server crisis because of bugs in apple's so-called servers.

Dell - $1999
XPS M1730
Intel® Core? 2 Duo 2.4ghz
2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
160GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card

Apple - $1999
MacBook Pro
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
200GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
802.11n, Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet

At worst, they are comparable. You should do some shopping before you have more keyboard diarrhea.

And you don't think M$ has easily as many holes in their software? You'd eat dung if the right person spoon fed you, wouldn't you?

Lackskills next time you want to prove someone wrong go and do more work and tells us where your info comes from.

your apple model the best you best describle is a 15" macbook pro where the dell has 17" monitor. i know this based on the seed of the cpu speed since NO 17" macbook pro uses any cpu with less then 2.5GHz

your Macbooks has a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT grapghics card where the dell has NVIDIA®GeForce® 8700M GT graphics. so macbook is using older graphis and has a smaller screen. both macbooks use the same NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics but the 17" model has better speed and more GDDR3 memory then the 15" model.]

what can you get for more money on the higher end dell model M1730 for graphics NVIDIA®SLI?Dual GeForce®8700MGT.

Macbook pros use 802.11 N draft and Dell 802.11G whats so bad about 802.11N DRAFT is it may be incopable with 802.11N Final starndards.

harddrives the faster it spins the faster you can acces your data and the Macbooks hardrive is slower.

OS Macbook Pro has Leopard whats wrong with that is the more then the 200 "bug/flaws"
M1730 OS's yes you can get both Vists and XP on the dell but not for the same $1,999 but for $2,099
vistas problems when it came out about 23 "Bugs/flaws" yes there where more problems but that hardware based not the OS problem.

theres still more i could say but in tired of tying.

Err, obsolete-out-of-box? Where the heck did that come from? Why do Apple look expensive? Well they don't make "cheap" computers (you might argue the Mac Mini qualifies - on any given day I might too). That is, they don't make computers that are as you say "obsolete-out-of-box".

Is that the only reason? Well no, clearly some of the time you're looking at Apple outside a "refresh cycle" this or that part has become available, and Apple haven't adopted it - you're bound to be able to find a PC maker or two who have it, and look better value at that point in time. Of course, if we're talking about an Intel part, then often the Mac has that first anyway (part of the "special relationship").

Yes there is too much hype about Apple, yes this gets boring. But when the vast majority of computers run Windows anything different generates more "buzz".

The DNS server bug isn't specific to Apple, although they have taken their sweet time fixing it. I don't think anyone thinks Mac are immune to anything, but they do better than Windows (for whatever reason). It's probably no accident that Microsoft have taken a few things from Apple's playbook when it comes to Vista security. Yes I do expect Mac OS X will learn some lessons from Vista too.

Of course, Apple get most of their low level improvements from "open source" contributions (albeit not usually directly). Personally I think this is a better way to build products (my other computers a Sun Ultra24).

Seriously, I think you've been drinking the Kool-Aid too long, that Mac isn't the worthless, overpriced piece of junk you think it is. Sure, it's not the cheapest computer in the lot, sure the hype is often out of control, and sure even Mac users need to think about security. But:

Mac isn't overpriced. Compare like with like, and you'll find Apple to be price competitive (on any given day it might be cheaper than a Dell or HP or it might cost a little more - I'm not saying it's always cheaper)

Mac isn't the security nightmare Windows is. I'm not saying it's a panacea either.

Mac users don't all have two heads or drag their knuckles. Some of them do, but from where I sit Windows user are at least as bad. (Why do they get so touchy when they learn you don't use Windows 100% of the time?)

Lastly, and maybe this doesn't apply to you - PCs get very expensive when you start building out your network, the CALs add up really quickly. So if you're talking about 10+ machines and a server you can forget my rather coy caveat about "not always cheaper" - Mac is always cheaper. You want to do better you'd better think outside Microsoft's box.

Battlemanr - Do you cringe every time you see an Apple commercial, or just change the channel?

You know ******* well our sources are the same. Also, you are splitting hairs with the differences. You will find similar difference all across the PC world. Those differences are not Mac exclusive. I use PC's 95% of the time and I do prefer XP to OSX, but it has nothing to do with this so called "overpricing" that apple does. OSX works for some people, many of which are extremely right brain thinkers. I am extremely left brained, but I still see the advantages of the Mac.

p---- envy is such a sad thing to see.
by iphoneguy22 August 5, 2008 11:12 AM PDT
So your saying Microsoft is better, its the quality of Apple's work that puts Pc's in the dust. And Apple has on security problem while Windown has over 50,000 known viruses! And Microsoft's new anti-apple ad is a joke
by barclayreynolds August 5, 2008 4:51 PM PDT
Just because you want an Apple and have the old HP with windows 95 still don?t apple so they are cutting edge and you want to be.
by Interpolnyc August 6, 2008 12:22 AM PDT
hey, fanboy chill out. i did a lot of research, and for the time, and what i wanted, apple did have the best deal, plus it was easy to deal with them, and they offered an educational discount. so i respect that you dislike apple, i also think you should respect other people if they choose a different platform. there is an ease of use price that i think you really need to factor in, before dissin' the A. anyway, i totally agree that apple is a hype machine. its retarded that they get so much press. they could sell **** with the little apple logo on it and call it amazing.

It looks too much like the Macbook Air to me...
Maybe it is?

"theres still more i could say but in tired of tying."

I believe you were trying to spell, "trying." My MacBook checks for such spelling errors before I post.

Haha, that's actually because of your browser. I'm guessing you're using Firefox, which checks for spelling errors on ANY computer, even the Dell on which I'm typing this comment. That's not a feature exclusive to Macs, buddy.

Also, Firefox wouldn't even pick that up because tying was spelled correctly. That would be more of a grammatical issue.

As for the redesign, I'm not sure if I dig the aluminum. I don't get why Apple thinks they have to make everything look futuristic. I liked the black and white finishes of the current MacBooks.
by Marsha524 August 5, 2008 10:31 PM PDT
Dude, you don't need a "MacBook" to have basic spell check from what I know Firefox does a darn good job for a browser.
by borispmchan August 5, 2008 7:41 AM PDT
No way! Just look carefully at the first picture. The Apple logo was off centered! It's a fake one. Damn sure, although the new Macbook HAS got an aluminum chassis.

The logo is not off center. Half of the MacBook is covered with paper in that picture..
by barclayreynolds August 5, 2008 4:56 PM PDT
It does look off center and plastic. Fake photo.

NorthWakeDad:

"Tying" is an actual, correctly-spelled word. My PC offers alternative words as I type if something doesn't make sense.

Also, Borispmchan: I agree with you with the logo being off center, but I'm thinking maybe a reflection or something got in the way of the whole lid being shown... leading us to think it's off center. I think it's legit, and given apple's move to make everything* aluminum, it's seems logical that the MB would follow suit.

*Oddly though, the iPhone 3G is plastic.

No, it's not because of his browser. Macs have system-wide spell check built in that will check your spelling no matter what application you are in.

It looks like someone took all the information we have on the new Macbook and messed around a little bit on PS and then made some pictures. I wouldn't trust them at all.

i just think it's hilarious how many spelling and grammatical errors i see when i read the angered posts against mac. Maybe there's a correlation between years of education and the average mac user.

I agree with an earlier comment, if Apple asks for the pictures to be removed, then they're real. Either way it doesn't matter, we all know that a new aluminum MacBook will come out soon so these pictures are pretty much worthless for our knowledge.

The Apple logo is not off centered. A piece of the protective covering is covering the left edge.

Anyway, I hope the new MacBook comes out soon. Screw the other rumors (iPods & useless sub-notebooks). Apple was a computer company before anything else so they should continue focusing on their computers (which age faster anyways). Plus, anyone who ever wanted an iPod, has one already. Although iPods make Apple money more than anything else and we love them, iPod updates shouldn't be the priority.

I like the idea of the aluminum case very nice is there a bigger processor, graphics card or HD thats what i want to know. Whats the percentage of people that move from mac to pc? Why do people hate on macs theres nothing wrong with enjoying your computer or being excited about a new product. I have both pc and mac and i always find myself using the mac more often than not. I only use the pc for windows media center to play movies on my xbox all my work is done on the mac because i enjoy working on the task at hand and not the computer thats just me though. Maybe if you hate macs or mac fanboys or whatever so much you shouldn't be reading mac hype.
