I have three concerns: 1) no handlebars 2) use in public places and 3) cost. The segway never gained mass appeal because of it's rich mans price tag and bulking form factor. Obviously, the Toyota one is smaller which, as was said in the article, is "useful for maneuvering in tight spaces or crowded urban environments." Though, if this thing cost thousands of dollars there will not be may takers, and the same number of walkers.

It strikes me as very Jetsons. Not that that's a BAD thing. Still, I wish they had focused their attention on the flying car or pneumatic transport tube instead. ;)

their is a flying car but it wouldnt make mass production because nobody can affored except for the rich and plus who can pilot the car anyways....Its more like invent a car that has no wheels and can hover instead

This must be an elaborate scheme to make Americans even fatter than what they already are. What's next people ? A device where you can lie down and move around by operating a joy stick with only a single finger (Watch Wall-E). Plus 3.5 miles per hour ? I walk at twice that speed ! On the other hand can this device move the average American around ? 250lbs is not light weight so the batteries will probably run out in 5 minutes - that is assuming of course that the wheels don't burst.

While I agree with you, it's physically impossible to "walk" at 7mph. That would be running. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to walk for any significant length of time at even 4mph. Try it sometime. :)

I like the design, and I think it would take a lot of getting used to as far as riding it. Other than that it looks like a great idea, I wanna know the cost.

To add to what dribnif said, they should've just made a vacuum cleaner like that. Basically you ride around the house with it cleaning up the mess. I think people would actually pay for that.

If Toyota was even smarter they would create version 2.0 of this thing as a joint venture with a pharmaceuticla company that makes drugs for diabetes.
