Comments on: Police: Online activity led us to alleged cat killer

Police in Miami-Dade arrest an 18-year-old "dog-loving class clown" and accuse him of murdering at least 19 cats. Key to the arrest, police say, was an analysis of the suspect's Facebook and MySpace pages.

Each of the 19 cats that sicko tortured to death represents a considerable investment for food, vets bills, etc. on the part of their families/owners/guardians. In the last year my cat has had over $400 worth of medical care, and over his life, well over $1000. Prosecutors should get a total of the financial loss from each owner - for most of the slaughtered cats, their value would exceed the amount necessary to charge the sicko with a felony. Conviction on multiple felony counts should keep him behind bars for a very, very long time. The sooner he gets out the sooner he will move on from torturing animals to murdering people.

People fail to realize that if cats did not go out and hunt, we would be overrun with vermin - rats and mice.

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE who would do that to an animal, whether it be cat, dog, or even a goldfish; should be placed in a room with the owners of the animal(s), and a single baseball bat. When someone does something like that, they have lost their right to call themselves human. They have become the animal... And they should be treated as such...

I bet Ted Bundy's family thought him totally incapable of his crimes, too.

The culprit is a Ted Bundy/Jeffrey Dahmer in the making. I hope they've caught the right person and keep him off the street for many years. The odds are in favor of a person who's capable of tormenting animals to escalate to killing and maiming human beings.

Anyone who thinks, "Who cares? It's only cats" should remember that the culprit did these things and then left the bodies in a way to cause maximum suffering to the cats AND TO THEIR OWNERS. So even someone who thinks that only humans matter should remember that humans suffered from his actions, too.

I'm so glad that the suspect is over 18, and can be charged as an adult. Too bad that crimes involving extreme animal cruelty can't result in a life sentence without parole, because I think that's what would protect society best (people and pets alike). Maybe the maximum sentence on each crime he's charged with, served consecutively, will keep society at large safe from the sadistic sociopath for as long as legally possible.
