Now Microsoft launched ads showing how over priced Apple computers are, Mac fans are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
If anything, Apple fans should thank Microsoft.
If these ads will get Apple to lower the ridiculously high prices of their hardware, more people WILL BUY Apple.
But I guess Apple fans are too stupid to figure that out.
PC cpus are slow:
Then why did they start using PC cpus?
Windows suck:
Why do so many of them install Windows in their Macs with bootcamp?
Windows are vulnerable to viruses and malware?:
Again, why do they install it in their Macs? An apple hardware doesn't make running "Windows" more secure. It's 100% just as vulnerable than a PC.
PCs use cheap hardware components:
Apple have the same hardware suppliers as PCs do. They are still made by the same 12 year old girl who works 16 hours a day in a sweatshop in China.
You are confused about "PC CPUs". Apple typically uses a faster, more advanced class of Intel CPU when most "PC" manufacturers opt for less powerful, less expensive CPUs.
You actually make a good point in saying that as soon as you put Windows on a machine, the security is thrown out the window (pun intended).
Your comment about the computers being made in a sweatshop is completely untrue and unfounded. American companies are very conscious of the work conditions of their suppliers. And while mistakes happen and some might hire a contractor with a questionable labour policy, most are legitimate.
P series vs P series, I think the P series will win, and the P series Core 2 duos are quite common in laptops that aren't ultra low end
It's more than just which series. There are three year old P series chips and ones released this past year. We've been through this a dozen times. Why don't you understand it by now?
now how about
C2D P8400 vs C2D P8400
I think the P8400 will win!
and the P8400 is fairly popular laptop chip
Please write in coherent, full sentences please, if you are capable of it. You are just putting model numbers of processors and gibberish up.
Oh wait, they didn't actually state that in the ad did they? Those clever marketing folks.
You won't get an accurate number since many Mac users don't want to admit they still need Windows. All you have to do is go to Mac forums and you'll see a fairly large number of Mac users running Windows with their machines.
" I doubt very many every day Macintosh users would spend the money to buy a retail copy of Vista or XP"
Well PC users who run a "Hackintosh" also probably don't pay a dime for their copy of OSX.
"Apple typically uses a faster, more advanced class of Intel CPU when most "PC" manufacturers opt for less powerful, less expensive CPUs. "
Completely pulled out of your arse. You have no proof of knowing and you know this. Besides, you have no choice what kind of CPU Apple decides to put in your Mac. With a PC, I can pull out the cpu in the socket if I don't like it and put the one I want. Can you do that with a Mac?
"American companies are very conscious of the work conditions of their suppliers."
If you completely believe this, you're a bigger idiot than I thought. Big companies like Apple, Dell, HP, Sony, Microsoft... couldn't give a rat's behind who puts their computer together as long as its put together DIRT CHEAP.
I can understand if a bunch of workers with PHD degrees were putting Macs together in Cupertino, but that is not the case. There is a reason why computer components are built in 3rd world countries where there is no such thing as "labor laws". That is so you can buy your product at a much lower price while the CEOs of the company can have a dozen mansions and 6 G5 jets.
Jobs and Gates couldn't give a flying f#$k about the exploited workers in China.
People running "Hackintoshes" with stolen copies of Mac OS X are engaged in an illegal activity and will eventually pay the price, one way or another. That's their moral and ethical issue.
Nope, true, look it up. All you have to do is look at the specs of each machine in question. It's well documented, look it up. Heck, even Wikipedia has a nice list of processors in past and present Macintoshes. Whenever you do a comparison of a Macintosh with a similarly priced PC, you will find that the PC will usually use a lower model Core 2 Duo chip. And yes, I see no reason why you couldn't replace the CPU in a Macintosh. I have no personal experience doing it, but I see no reason why you couldn't. In the PowerPC days, the processors were on "daughter cards" and were directly replaceable.
You have a very cynical and naïve view of business and it is you that are the imbecile. Sure, they probably cut corners. But to get caught using child labour in this day and age would be virtual economic suicide. I will agree with you that major corporations in the US could put more economic and political pressure on countries like China that violate human rights. But to say they don't give a "flying f#$k" is cynical and unfounded. Heck the Gates Foundation does some very good work.
Sure Apple's look more expensive than Windows Big Box SKUs but when you factor in the additional cost of buying all the software they setup for you to use as Trials that you THINK are part of your computer, the price shoots up by hundreds of dollars.
I once had to fix a persons computer beause it suddenly couldn't play DVDs. The trial for the Decoder had expired. Seriously? How is Joe Average Computer User going to know what a Decoder is, let alone understand that he needs to pay for it or buy a new one?
I will, however, say that differences in operating systems is not merely a difference of opinion as you allege. Without good software, hardware is meaningless.
Isn't it funny how 90% of the working world continue to use Windows machines despite virus, spyware and malware. The only ones using Macs are the hairy smelly transexuals with nose rings and tatoos who design posters for the company that gets posted twice a year in the breakroom.
There is no alternative. If there were, it would've happened by now.
"People running "Hackintoshes" with stolen copies of Mac OS X are engaged in an illegal activity and will eventually pay the price, one way or another."
Awww, somebody bring out the violins. Everyone I know that built hackintoshes only built them to rub it to the faces of apple fangirls. It's a useless OS that's why I never used it after installing it.
However, Mac users need Windows, that's why they install it. There's a difference. ;-)
Yeah, I'll bet my life on what some nut posted on Wikipedia... Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! I agree with you that it's so easy to do upgrades on a Mac. Why it's so simple. You pick up your Mac, throw it in the garbage can and you buy a new one. How easy is that!
"But to get caught using child labour in this day and age would be virtual economic suicide."
Oh, you're right! I totally see your point now. China has far stricter laws regarding child labor laws than America does now. China should be a model for the rest of the world on how our citizens should be treated. I mean we saw MSNBC's coverage of the olympics and China is far far ethical than the U.S. In the U.S., we harvest people's organs, we put people in prison for disagreeing with the government, we give a couple the right to kill one of their kids should they want another one.
"But to say they don't give a "flying f#$k" is cynical and unfounded."
How often does Jobs go to China with his clipboard and audit what's going on? I'd be surprised if he even knew what province one of his factories are.
"Heck the Gates Foundation does some very good work. "
When you're a multi billionaire like Gates and Jobs, you'll do whatever it takes for you to get TAX BREAKS.
You obviously don't understand market dynamics. Microsoft created their own ecosystem by grafting themselves onto an existing one, that of IBM's making and all the clone manufacturers. People don't automatically gravitate to the highest quality. They usually go for what is most popular already and what is cheapest at the checkout counter. This has happened many times in modern technology markets. The issue is much more complicated that "who has the better product". Look at VHS vs. Betamax as an example. The Betamax was a technologically superior product, but due to other factors it lost out to the inferior VHS standard. The numbers are showing that an increasing number of people are wising up however. Market share numbers for Mac OS X users and LInux and UNIX derivatives is increasing. Microsoft will probably never go away and will most likely maintain a major percentage of the market. They reached a critical mass long ago that will perpetuate them through sheer numbers. Quality is not the deciding factor, I reiterate. Hell, BeOS and AmigaOS were superior to both Mac OS (pre OS X) and WIndows, but both perished (for all intents and purposes).
"Mac users need Windows"? I don't NEED it, I'm an operating system enthusiast and I use it to experiment with it. And every time I use it, it makes me appreciate Mac OS X that much more. The Wikipedia article I pointed you to has references, look it up for yourself if you don't believe the chart. (It's funny how you avoided the original issue).
Your comments have shown you to be an insensitive, ignorant, homophobic, uncultured boob. I refuse to get into a political or ethical discussion with someone that is obviously incapable of holding an intelligent conversation. Do the world a favour and burn your keyboard.
Apple's ad is false because it doesn't apply to everyone. Those that watch their web behavior, regular updates and anti virus will not have the problems that their commercial portrays.
Microsoft's ad is very effective because it applies to EVERY apple consumer. They ALL OVER PAY for their hardware.
No doubt that should Apple decides to sell licenses to their OS, it will sell like hotcakes. However, Apple hardware would rot on store shelves since nearly everyone will buy hardware from PC manufacturers.
As far as viruses, there is SOME truth to that but they also failed to mention that Macs have their own Bot infections and networks now.
Untrue. Option, Command + Escape keys. Then click the unresponsive application from the list. Confirm it with OK.
"Macs have their own Bot infections and networks now."
Yes. Caused by illegally downloading a manipulated copy of iLife. Rather like that manipulated copy of Windows 7 RC currently going around.
Ok, i'll admit Vista was garbage, but Windows 7 is coming out soon (and judging by the beat and RC it's gonna be awesome) and XP is more than adequate for common tasks.
In my opinion, Apple's only advantage is its great hardware design. And as for support, what about Geeksquad?
It depends on what you want. If you want something that's light and looks nice. Mac is for you. If you deal with PS and video editing on a massive scale. I am sure the quad cores can outpace mac's dual core on encoding speeds. The extra slots for more DDR3 on the mac are worthless unless you want to pay a lot more money for the extra ram sticks. But then you loose the dual ram boost. There is no Blu-ray support either.
Hi, i'm a PC and i actually like to get **** done.
I will admit i am a microsft fanboy(yes i do own, and enjoy my zune). I did not have a negative opinion of apple in days past, but latley i have just become tired of the apple is god image put on by the world.
i like my pc, i enjoy using windows, i have never had a problem with vista, my PC has never crashed, i have never gotten a virus.
And a thing about apple being virus free, i admit this is very true. There are VERY FEW viruses written for the mac os. this is a business move. its understandable. apple has a very small market share compared to windows. i wouldnt waste my time writing trojans for it either
and one last note, Right click FTW
suck it apple
=]
I get **** done on my Mac too. It's my main work computer.
And about right-clicking 1999 wants its joke back. I right-click all the time. Macs have shipped with a 4 button mouse for a few years now.
Also out of the 100's of PC laptops I've supported I haven't seen a failure rate that concerns me and I certainly have never seen two windows laptops purchased at the same time both fail like Cnet's Raf Needleman has experienced with his mac books. He even lost a DVD in one of those fancy (I'll never own one) slot fed optical drives when it failed. A good tray type drive with an eject hole is the only way to go.

- I just now noticed the tagline. "Hi, I'm a Mac." "I'm a Megan." In other words, not "I'm a Mac too" (as in "I'm a PC") but "I'm a Megan." As in ... I'm an individual.
