Comments on: In new Microsoft ad, it takes a long time to buy a PC

The latest "laptop hunters" ad keeps hammering Apple on every conceivable aspect. But why does it seem to take 11-year-old Jackson and his mom, Lisa, a long time to buy their PC?

Dude, just shut up with these stupid columns of yours downplaying the ad because of light and dark. It's a nice light hearted ad targeted to where it hurts Apple the most, price. I agree with Microsoft 100%. [CNET editors' note: Personal attack deleted.]

I could buy a $600 laptop every two years selling the older one for $300, then using this to offset the next model. Compared to what you pay for an apple laptop, two years from now that MS OS laptop will have hardware that's equal to the $1500 mac, four years from that it'll be better, six years much much better, and by the time you hit the four time doing this and hitting the $1500 price point this laptop will be much better than the $1500 mac laptop that was purchased 8 years ago. There are a lot of good freeware anti-virus you can download from Cnet as well as anti-malware, Open Office, and so much more. What was the hardware spec of the $1500 Apple laptop of 2001 and compare that with a current $600 Windows OS dual core laptop, and explain it to everyone how the Apple is cheaper when it comes down to TCO, more productive, or that the hardware is more "snappy" than that modern, budget, Windows OS machine? I think most people would get more out of $1500 going the Windows route, hell if they want they could also sell the Windows OS disc/key to someone else and use Linux instead thus making the laptop even snappier.

"I could buy a $600 laptop ... two years from now that MS OS laptop will have hardware that's equal to the $1500 mac"

Boy are you deluded... go look at some specs some time why don't you. Your $600 laptop today won't have the specs of a $1500 Mac, let alone 2 years from now. AND, it will be a piece of $*#@( all that time. If you had said you could buy a PC laptop for $1200 that has the specs of the $1500 Mac one... then you'd be on to something... well other than things like quality, TCO, and your actual computing experience.... but who cares about that stuff when you can save a few bucks, huh?
