Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg says the company looks forward to you having "80,000 friends...100,000 friends." That couldn't have anything to do with advertising, could it?

I think you are probably right about targeted marketing through FB friend groups and user profiles. Right now, FB makes money off of us by popping targeted ads into our profiles and groups. At least this way the owner of the profile might make some cash from the process.
