Apple's Support site is inundated with suggestions as to why a woman's husband might have inadvertently e-mailed filthy pictures from his iPhone.

There are so many lies on 'net forums that my first inclination is to assume (in the absence of further evidence) that NONE of this ever happened.

Applying Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation is that it is all a hoax. There was probably no email or nasty photo and there may not even be a husband, cheating or otherwise. It isn't even safe to assume that Susan042764 is a woman.

I believe this is likely to all be a big 'net fantasy just to see what it stirs up on the Apple support site.

Um, okay here's the thing.
1) Why is he taking such pictures?
2) Why does he have the other woman's e-mail address?
3) Why is Susan042764 so stupid that she would actually ask tech support for an answer?

It's pretty clear that he is cheating. Even if there was such a glitch (which I'm very sure is not he told a complete lie), why would it just happen to get THAT picture to THAT woman. That sounds pretty shady. Her ignorance of electronics and wanting to be in denial of what was actually happen could have lead to a lot of stupidity. Thanks to all who supported her in seeing the truth.

It's well-nigh impossible for a picture to attach itself to a message on its own, but it's not too difficult to press in the wrong place, attach a picture inadvertently, and not notice it before you send the message.

The answer is in the content of the e-mail. If it's along the lines of "if I were with you now I wouldn't have to think about you this way," guilty as charged. If it's "I'll send you the backup spreadsheets for the budget cuts when I get into the office Tuesday," it's a mistake - and was probably as embarrassing to the recipient as it was to Susan, if not more so. In that case maybe Susan ought to be upset at him for taking the picture in the first place, but no more than that.

I've had my iPhone for about a year now and I've never had it accidentally e-mail anyone anything. (I've accidentally called some one, but never an e-mail.)

I suppose one could hold the camera out with one hand and snap at the right moment, but it's not a wide-angle lens; at arms length, it might capture his, um, ministrations, but not his face. To get all of him, it would have to be held further back. On top of that, it would be hard to line up the shot when you can't see the screen, as anybody who has tried to take a photo of themselves even in less compromising situations would probably know

So not having seen the picture, my questions are: can you see his face; if not, how does she know it's him (maybe I don't want to know), and if so, who took the picture?

My iPhone does this all the time. Whenever I'm uh, doing something I only do in private, my iPhone starts snapping pictures of me and sending them to random contacts. I'm really furious about this! I could get in serious trouble!

Sounds to me like a setup for a lawsuit. She divorces him, then he sues Apple for faulty software causing his divorce. I bet they are both in on it - probably the recipient too.

Definitely not a glitch! This is a know Apple technique for getting free publicity. Every camera enabled device sold by Apple can be remotely controlled by Steve Jobs himself, unbeknownst to the owner. A picture taken, downloaded to Apple server where it is Photoshopped and then loaded right back to the device and attached to one or several emails. Often to recipients unknown to the owner of the device. It is criminal! Destroy all iPhones!.....

I have been an iPhone user for years now and I must say you people who have had accidental e-mails sent are crazy! It doesn't happen, I've just done some research on the web and Apple's forums and haven't found any articles on this phenomenon. You're phone's don't unlock by themselves, they have to be done manually and there are many steps that have to be done to attach a file to an e-mail and there's only one way to do it.

The man is cheating and your choice to divorce him is the best. Best of luck.

You're wrong. HE should diverce HER for intruding on his privacy, i.e. reading his highly personal e-mails! No-one has the right to poke around in other people's email accounts or read their sent/received SMS!
If my husband ever would try to read my personal emails, I would not only divorce him, but probably also cause him some serious bodily harm...
