Comments on: What Twitter brings to the party

While Twitter hasn't caught on with mainstream Web users, it's all the rage in the digerati echo chamber. Is that unbridled enthusiasm justified?

Very insightful, and you are right, the infrastructure issues need to be solved and soon. Plus, improved search/filter/sort facilities for the goldmine that is Twitter back-data. Currently, even their own "People Search" is broken...

Personally, I am surprised that Google hasn't bought them yet, and they would be ideally suited too... heavy duty cloud environment and industrial strength search... get Twitter while it's still cheap... (currently SAI has it listed at about $75M...). Rather than wait on Jaiku to come around. They always end up buying anyway (see YouTube vs. Google Video).

Great post, Dan. Twitter has done more for my business networking than any other application or social network over this last year and well into 2008. I just know that Kara's post could be a find&replace on "blogging" and "AOL" and "Internet" and still be relevant to those other early adopter moments. It's okay. We can still tweet until the rest of the network catches up.

Side note: I'm *really* grateful for the new functionality for commenting. It's so much better than the old days. I imagine you had something to do with the change, but if not, good on ya, News.com and CNET. (in the voice of Molly Wood). : )

Twitter is appropriately named because it is for twits, or idiots. If its yuppie bubble-head name or origins didn't give it away, the fact that Robert Scoble is the most popular person on the service does.
