I find it ironic that Schmidt is saying that their users would not like to have ads served up
and that they prioritize the user experience over the advertiser
raise your hands
how many of you really want to see the ads (or as many of the ads that you come across in a day on the internet)
how many user experience votes would they need before they gave up their search advertising model
they have the luxury of massive profitable momentum that allows them to forgoe this revenue stream
but its well beyond the kettle calling itself black
If they truly feel that way - why not give users an opt in to any of the ad serving search sites
ie
thank you I prefer to have paid search ads included with my google searches
no thank you, I prefer not having paid search ads included with my google searches
or
do you prefer that we use organic search algorithms
do you prefer that we use incorporate key word auctions in addition to organic search
Dan, thank you for my morning chuckle
cheers

- The recent fading homepage tests, and the "this space intentionally left blank" are a test to see if users will tolerate ads. Its "this space intentionally left blank" and "buy cheereos" tomorrow, or "vote for Pelosi." I'm switching to altavista. I don't want to wait forever to get to search. This fading homepage google is toying with is asinine.
