That Microsoft has confirmed the operating system will be out in time for the holiday shopping season spells relief for PC makers.

Y'all are missing the point that most corporations are still on XP, and therefore with all those legacy licenses about to be worthless as hardware and software vendors switch support away from XP along with new hardware purchasing cycles, people will be thrilled to get Windows7.

I certainly would love to upgrade my XP Pro to Windows7, if the price is right and hardware support is there.

Why not take that opportunity to switch to Mac OS X? Or, use it to switch to Solaris or Linux? Upgrading to Windows 7 will just perpetuate all the problems that have plagued businesses for the past 20+ years. It is a perfect opportunity to shift paradigms.

Gotta hand it to apple, Thx to you Windows just got the boost of adrenaline that it needed. I really cant wait to see how the mac/pc goes down in the next year or so.
now people need to be aware about some of the misguided information about macs, hopefully Win 7 will do this.

"Misguided"? Will you ever stop spewing this crap?
by Angmarr May 14, 2009 1:09 PM PDT
not while you guys keep doing the same

If you will examine all past comments, most, if not all, of what I have said and most other non-Windows-fanatics have said is in response to the religious fervour spouted by other members of the Microsoft coven. Stop spouting the lies and crap, and we'll stop responding, it's that simple.

I can say the same to mac fanboys
by kcotham May 14, 2009 11:53 PM PDT
@Angmarr

If that comment was aimed at me, I resent it. I am no "fanboy". (God what a stupid word!) I guess you could say that I am an "enthusiast", but not a "fanboy". If you want to see a "fanboy" look into the mirror "my friend".

If there was something other than Apple (Cheaper with more compatibility) or Linux (More user friendly with more compatibility) .... I would switch. But as it is I am a fan of windows. If you consider that a fanboy, then so are you of macs.
But I will admit that there are "much bigger" fanboys on both ends on CNET!

It's called Ubuntu.

Really seems like it could be a win- win for Mac users... getting to use OSX and a stable and secure version of Windose. Nothing wrong with that!

Windows 7 may unleash latent sliced bread demand

Windows 7 may fix the world economy

The "OS" that solves sells problems, and boosts the economy marketing ploy is unique only to Microsoft, and the same marketing ploy they used with Vista. I thought they fired those cats and hired better ones .... guess not.

I bought a new PC 20 months ago that runs Vista. I have a 3 yr old laptop and a 7 yr old desktop that runs XP. I have a a 7 yr desktop that runs Ubuntu. I use my iPhone as a light weight system and connect to internet for lots of fun stuff. No new PCs for me, they all run fine, my demand is sated. Maybe in 2012?

That's what the market is showing, a slow in new PC sales. And undoubtedly, this will also slow the sales of any new OS, whether it be Mac OS X 10.6 or Windows 7. Sales will continue, but they have slowed.

Does anyone think it would be possible to ban 'Windoze' as a term? Some people think they are being really sharp and clever by writing 'Windoze'.

Also, despite a few issues I am truly excited about 7.

As soon as you ban "Crapple" and "Fanboy" et cetera. They are all stupid terms.

"Defections to Mac may slow. So, Apple won't be entirely happy," Kay said.

If I buy a Toyota, will I never drive a Honda again? Many folks have Macs, PCs, and some even have Linux boxes. I've had Macs as long as I remember, and Thinkpads too. I choose based on what I need, if I need a Mac, I buy a Mac, if I need Windows, I buy a Window PC, and I have multiple computers running different OSs.

From all of the comments I have seen,so far, about Windows v7,it would appear that the final version may be the best Windows version ever.
However, I am still running Windows XP Pro.,and have not,as yet tried any of the beta versions of Windows 7.
I look forward to the release of the Final version of '7'.

I think Window 7 RC has been great!. My system runs much better with W7 than it did with XP.

But that said, I don't think your going to see any huge growth in PC sell just for an OS. People and Business need a REASON to upgrade. Back in the 90's you needed to upgrade to each OS to keep up with the new programs that where designed only to run on the newest OS. I don't see to many programs out there that say "Windows Vista or earlier".

Most of the 7 year old machine at work are running fine... Yeah they are slow compared to a top of the line system today. But for most standard office applications, they do just fine.

Now when an APPLICATION comes out that requires dual or quad cores, then maybe I'd be able to go to the powers that be and say "now we have to upgrade". Or if support for XP were to stop in the near future, they we'd need to look at upgrading... but Microsoft has extend support thru 2014.
