There were plenty of e-book readers on display at CES 2010, but many question whether the market for such dedicated devices can support all the new entrants.

Vintage computer historians have long revered the Altair 8800. As it turns out, an unknown computer project at Sacramento State beat the Altair by three years.

i don't care if apples are overpriced...you get what you pay for...i have never had any problems with my macs...however, i have owned pcs (quite a few to exact) and have had lots of problems with them...
I think the decimal point is misplaced in that statement.
I carry the Air like I would a magazine or folder. It does all the stuff I need to do while out of the office, like email, Photoshop, Keynote presentations, web updating and so on. No, it's not as powerful as the Pro, but I don't need it to be. Nor have I ever found I needed more ports. I believe the Air was marketed as a second computer, not as a user's only computer. To be honest I would have paid even more for something that is so lightweight and designed to be almost ergonomically perfect when being carried around. There are no other notebooks around that provide all this, as far as I can tell.
Try reading the article next time.
TO ALL MACFAN BOYS **** FOR ONCE WE ARE SICK OF YOUR MKAC IS BETTER THAN EVERYTHING ********.
There is not one thing good about mac if you feel like wasting money on something that ist even better than a p3. Apple lies a lot about there competitors i.e Microsoft and there advertising. Microsoft doesnt advertise unlike Apple where they increase there advertising budget by 30% last year. Yes the Mac book Air is over priced for the lack of good technology in it compaired to say a ibm or a dell or an hp or anyother laptop. The most powerful laptops you can buy are worth the money seeing as they can actually play high resolution games where a mac has issues running World of warcraft.
Windows sux. kkthxbye
I work on both OS's everyday, care to ask why i own three windows machines instead of Mac's??
Care to wonder why NONE of my machines have ever failed and my Mac at work has failed several times because of apples own updates for me to do my job?
Apple is a bit pricy, and way to overrated for my taste. Its a taste thing. Sorry if i like the ability to Build my machine and know every part and every cord inside so if something is missing or messed with or not working, I CAN FIX IT. After working for Apple i see the truth, Closed.
Try bringing your PC to a local shop to get fixed, no problem, bring your mac in... different story. After fixing one mac, i vowed to never, ever do it again. i want to be able to take my computer apart, and fix it on my own, not have to bring it to a Certified tech, or void my warranty. Thats a true user experience, weather your running Windows, Linux, or Unix (not Apple Flavor).
Personally, the article had a misleading headline, with an answer that is predictable to those of us who deal with hardware for fun and profit. The Air is not overpriced for what it does. If you need an ultra-light, be prepared to pay for it, no matter who makes 'em...
Of course the Air is reasonably priced for its niche. Macs have been very competitively priced for the specifications they carry. If you're some road-warrior type who needs an ultra-light notebook (which eliminates 99% of the idiots posting in this section), then it comes in very handy. If you don't mind a pound or two extra (or for those overseas, a half-kilo or so), then it's ludicrous to shell out for one. It all depends on priority.

I still play the odd PC game, only shoot em ups online and maybe CIV4 or some such.
Otherwise the PUSS3 & WEE are what I'll use (or rather the kids will)
I wouln't bother with an Xbox as it is just a PC. The same games comes out for both, and guess what, the graphics are the same too.
Nope. It substantiates the amount Apple spent to market it. You can sell any product at a higher price by clever marketing. Don't forget the fact that some people would get convinced about the quality if it's priced higher.
Can the gasoline car go without fuel? No. Just like a "general" laptop cannot be ~3lbs and less than 0.8" thick.
Is an electric car for someone buying on price? No. Just like an Air is not for someone who is looking for the most X, Y and Z specs for his or her dollar.
So to say that the Air is overprices "just because its a Mac" is completely invalid. RTFA and you'll see that when its compared to other laptops in the same category, (electric cars to electric cars) then its really not overpriced in the least.

- I was one of the first people in Australia to take delivery of the first Macbook Air. I purchased the Applecare protection plan since I knew I was going to be traveling worldwide. The lid that is connects the screen to the computer base came loose on one side. This was no real disaster except for losing a workable microphone. i took my sick Macbbook to the local Apple retailer in Alicante, Spain. They kept it for over 2 weeks. I went to collect it and was told that Applecare did not cover this fault. I was then asked to pay 50 euros to cover the technical diagnosis and billing estimate. Naturally I asked then somewhat forcefully exactly what Applecare was good for. Several customers pricked up their ears. They immediately did a swift 180 degree turnaround and dais there was no charge for this but ,sorry, Applecare had told them that this was not covered by the agreement.

Showing 2 of 2 pages (88 Comments)The fault is caused by the inherent weakness of the new casing.
Moral of the tale - DON'T take Apple's keynote speech claims to be seriously valid in day to day life.
I will not be buying Apple next time around in spite of being a total Mac fan for the last 8 years. I look forward to using a Google based laptop instead.
