Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
During her years at CNET News, Ina Fried has changed beats several times, changed genders once, and covered both of the Pirates of Silicon Valley. These days, most of her attention is focused on Microsoft.
Beyond Binary is a look at how technology is changing our lives and the people behind all that life-changing stuff, with an extra emphasis on that which emanates from Redmond, Wash.

employee a person was, but how good one might have been either.
All they would have to do is say why he was fired, and he'd be set
up for life. Truth is no defense, unfortunately.
If the opportunity presented itself, would you hire him/her back?
or
the culture there got sick of Six Sigma from the Ex-GE guy!
* ...daring to stand up for the little guy?
* ...using Linux servers in the datacenters?
* ...not having enough CAL's for his servers? (wait for it...)
* getting caught saying something good about OSX?

No wonder!
"Scott lives with his wife and seven children in Bellevue, Wash. He spends his free time with his family, coaching sports teams, and playing golf. He is active in his church, and served as senior elder for International Community Church from 2004 to 2005 in London."
Seems like a standup guy with a lot of mouths to feed. Shame on all of you.
What's sensational about this, is that senior corporate officers don't get fired. Even when they get fired, they don't get fired, at least not publicly. People in those kinds of positions are almost always asked to resign. So for him to get fired, and for MS to say he was terminated, he had to screw up big, big enough to know he was losing his job over it.
So if people want to poke a little fun at his expense, so what? He?s the one that f?d up.
You seem to think that because the guy can't practice birth control or keep his zipper closed (an extremely selfish and ignorant negative in my mind), was active in his church (so was Dennis Rader, aka BTK the serial killer), and hanging out at home or playing golf (Scott Peterson who killed his wife in CA) like to do the same thing.
You my friend, are lacking some gray matter if you think your argument means anything regarding someone's behavior... Time for you to get real...
According to ValleyWag, it might have something to do with this "stand-up guy" doing the Naked Linen Fandango with one of his subordinates.
As for "mouths to feed", the guy was making something like $9000.00/hr over the two years he was working there as a CxO for the world's most money-heavy software company.
Even with the most rudimentary of money management, I suspect that he won't have to worry about going homeless or about feeding his kids - even if he never worked another day in his entire life.

He also realizes that having such a visible job *necessarily* implies giving up one's privacy.
I can make fun of George W Bush, at my heart's content, but he *cannot* make fun of me or try to put me down. Find somebody who can explain to you the basis for the above mentioned asymmetrical treatment.
Incidentally, lack of a sense of humor is not your only shortcoming: you should enroll in an English class, or at least use a spelling checker.

There is no demand for people who violate company policy no matter how much church they attend or kids they raise. Period.
Besides, seems if he violated a bad policy and was unfairly treated he should count his blessings that he doesn't work for such a lame place any more.

(30 Comments)It all depends on your definition and justification of the "deserving" in question.
"I have determined that candidate xyz deserves the job based on his/her superior qualifications, experience and hard work".
"The invisible hand (i.e., the forces of supply and demand) have decided that this is the candidate who deserves that job.".
"S/he deserves that job, because s/he is cute (or good in bed, etc."
"S/he deserves the job because he s/he goes to the same church (or country club, etc.) than I do".
Contrary to what you wrote, I am sure you can actually tell that the above statements are not all the same.
Not all the deserving and non-deservings are created equal.
