Microsoft did have a store years ago in the Sony Metreon in San Francisco. Maybe they should name the new stores Microsoft Experiment No. 2--ME2 for short.

It`s about time MSFT.
My only question is why it took so long for the left-hook to the jaw of Apple and Jobs.

As a shareholder of MSFT, GOOG, AAPL, YHOO, and others, I would love to see MSFT contend, especially as they have being floundering for *years*.

My guess is that they will continue to flounder as long as Ballmer is running the show. He can talk the talk, he just can't walk the walk.

Show me the money, Steve.

IMO, provided they sell HPs with Windows 7, every tech-savvy computer-buyer should be happy and Apple should be worried: the best choice will be even more broadly available and, apart from those that would even buy a turd if it had an Apple logo on it, it will be tuffer for Apple to sell Macs, now that better alternatives will be right next door.

Can`t wait for the MSFT store to open next to Apple store.
A mole can walk in and get the salesman all happy like he`s going to make a sell , then call the MSFT store on his HTC HERO/Palm Pre , and say..."sorry buddy , getting a PC with better specs for less than half price" C-ya ! Oh , and I heard Windows 7 is great and even runs well on a netbook with 1GIG of memory. "Oh , you say the high Mac prices are funding a certain someones liver transplant" ?
Bwahahahahaha !

This gives me the perfect opportunity to walk into a Microsoft store immediately after I purchased my Apple product, and to shove it in the faces of poor Windows users who wish that they would rather have macs.

Great marketing. Microsoft now admits to their inferiority by making "Microsoft Stores". Another classic "Start your copying machines" move by redmond.

I've been to a place like that. I think its the same place.. But I hate that everytime i go in the Sony Store, they are very rude and follow me around. But when I go into the Apple Store, its like im a god. They always ask if i need any help.
The Microsoft store should be an apple, not a sony. Hands down.

No, Apple didn't invent the concept of a shop.

It's not really big news when two companies in the same industry sector do similar things. Especially if that similar thing is opening a store or selling things in a branded shop.

The response from Apple fanboys and the anti-MS community is as typical as it is comical.

Intelligent people will welcome more the extra competition in this retail sector, which is dominated by a handful of major retailers.

I welcome the opportunity to purchase these excellent products direct from MS.
