Comments on: Some Vista users say they're getting the Ultimate shaft

Buyers of the priciest version of Windows Vista are miffed that Microsoft's initial upgrade discounts don't help them move to Windows 7.

Well, Ultimate was a joke. An expensive joke that only offered extra jokes. Microsoft should have been gone after in court for false advertising and making false promises.

As for the Windows 7 Upgrades. After looking at the differences between the three versions of Windows 7 I decided that for the most part the two versions being offered at the steep discount would do perfectly. Ultimate for Windows 7 has nothing overly important to offer over the much cheaper discounted upgrades. So I bought three deep discount upgrade packages and will not shed a tear to see Vista or Ultimate go way of the trash in the trash can.

Frankly given the mess that was Vista Microsoft should have given upgrades to Windows 7 for Vista users for free. Even the discount prices are too steep. Fortunately I like Windows 7 enough to cough up the money.

No matter what Microsoft needs to do cheaper upgrades. $49.95 to $99.95 is what they should cost. Full versions should be $50 more.

The extremely short lived Vista Ultimate was a total flop. A nice OS after waiting for the stable version (SP1) and waiting an intolerable interval for delayed and delayed and delayed drivers for my hardware...even the newest parts.

Now, just as Vista Ultimate is ready for it's promised ultra expansive extras, it dies the slow death on Microsofts' road to economic recovery. Releasing a new major operating system 12 months after their old one finally becomes stable is just greedy and has nothing to do with technological advancement.

Windows 7 should have been a modular Vista update. Not a 'new' OS.

If Microsoft throws Ultimate users under the bus again by leaving them out of the deep discounts, I will start using pirated copies. It's the only way I know to get some payback.

We all have been supportive of Windows either by choice or by policy. Windows is running off their ego that they are the only game in town. They are not. Apple, although expensive, is atleast stable. Like the article said, "Fool me once..." (that was M.E.). "Fool me twice, shame on you" (that was Vista). I have two computers with Ultimate and both had issues from the beginning. It was embarassing to go through such trouble with a prodcut from an established company as Microsoft. Well, if they did not learn a lesson, certainly I have and since MS has decided not to make it right by us loyal consumers, I have to consider the alternative. Microsoft has made my decision earier by not offering those with Vista Ultimate the ultimate apology for has shoddy work and our time for seeking help in correcting issues that should have been corrected prior to my spending money for it. I will be saving my money for an Apple and software. I will elminate the headache from my home by using the Vista Ultimate for the very business-standard minimal, Office. Other then that, my Mac will handle. Thanks Microsoft for costing me money purchasing your application, costing me time calling your out-of-country helpdesk, costing aggravation in reinstalling the OS three times, for charging me to fix your mistake so you can get paid twice. MacBook Pro 17, here is come.

I purchesed a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista on it. I kept having a problem getting into the Internet Explorer. I found out today that all I needed to do is remove the Dell Remote Access from my system and the problem was fixed. So if anyone else is having this same problem do this and it should resolve the problem. Make sure you restart your system after it is removed.

Watching this Win7 and Vista drama is like watching a reality tv show called "The most gullible in America". If you're dumb enough to pay for Win 7 after what Microsoft did to you with Vista, then you deserve your fate.

There are plenty of alternatives that are better engineered, less expensive and broadly available if you just pull your head out of the sand and decide things for yourself rather than letting Microsoft tell you what to think.

It's a very simple decision for me.... If MS$ decides to screw over it's Ultimate customers then I will finally make the switch to a Mac for my personal use and I will encourage any family or friend that comes to me for advice on their next computer purchase to consider a Mac. For my office I will save some money and downgrade everyone Windows 7 Business and never again purchase any so-called Ultimate product from M$.

get real. if you expect anything else from mircrosoft than money grabbing schemes you need to wake up. their business model is dependent on rushing shoddy products, with cheap versions of features from competing products from 5 years ago, and then charging you for all the upgrades you need to make the product function like you thought it would. i pity people who pay for microsoft products, like those starving kids i see on tv.

I just purchased Vista a few weeks ago and it is the worse operating system ever. Will Microsoft give resent purchasers a chance to upgrade to Windows 7 for free? They should be ashamed to have put out such a product and closing down XP. XP had flaws, but Vista has nothing but trouble built in to it. I hope they remember us the consumer.

Let them charge more... still not going to upgrade. I dont care for the extras in ultimate. I just require what I purchased to work. Lets just hope the EU sorts this outs and lands MS with another big fine. Bring it on EU, my complaint has been filed.
