My last point for now is that the fact that "most websites require [or recommend] Internet Explorer] is the single glaring hole in your argument; you are picking the wrong suspect from a line-up--that's web designer's faults not Microsoft. Essentially, it is lazy web design caused for the most part by not complying directly with W3C modern web standards (to their defense some advanced technologies or modern standards a large share of IE does not support, forcing IE specific hacks and fixes to be made, likely causing the IE only requirment problem).. Case in point, it is their CHOICE, that should be debated to them and not Microsoft. While IE has the current large market share, a web designer can CHOSE to support it or not support it--even if that means a loss, but it is always there .

Don't worry guys, next year they will tackle Apple when the bill comes for their heating. Surely having dominance in the mp3 player market and requiring itunes (bundled with quicktime) is enough to merit a fine of some amount. God bless the EU.

@plings

Try reading some Thoreau. The EU's antitrust laws are at the very least overzealous. Forcing MS to be so paranoid of a lawsuit that they have to remove their browser, an integral part of any modern operating system, is like regulating water parks the the point where they remove pools out of fear of someone drowning.

OS X comes preloaded with Safari. Most Linux distros come with Mozilla, etc.

Some websites require that you use I.E. Many require Flash.

Face it buddy, your arguments are not coherent. That's why it's predominantly you vs everyone else. Maybe you (and the EU) should change your thinking. Chill pill if you will.

this is just ludicrous.

i mean i hate IE8 and all but a MS has got to ship IE with win7.

seriously, why should apple be allowed to ship safari with macs then.

how the hell are people going to get a web browser if they can't use the internet >_>. the EU is F***ing stupid.

a good % of people don't know what other browsers are out there, and if they don't get IE then what are they going to do.
