Hmm more processor support for windows 7, (256 to be exact) a much smaller foot print in the memory, the way API's work and many many more updates to the kernel don't believe me ask listen to the programmers themselves. Windows 7 while it is based off of the Vista Kernel is much more then an update there are a lot of design changes that have gone into windows 7. Before you think otherwise you should watch this. http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/Going%20Deep/Mark-Russinovich-Inside-Windows-7/

All of you are losers. To have such a blind devotion to Microsoft or Apple is idiotic and even worse the desire to go into these forums and blast the people who don't share your view is pathetic. I have a MAC desktop and a PC laptop and enjoy them both and could give two craps what anyone thinks about it. You all need lives.

You guys are strange-Windows will always be better because it doesn't limit what applications are "allowed" on their operating system. Apple you have to use their APPROVED/SUPPORTED programs. You can install other programs at your own risk (yes there's a way)but keyword at your own risk. That's what Windows is. You better be smart enough not to download junk with spyware, virus, etc. It's people who want to be "safe" and protected that use Apple because it might be they don't want to deal with that or are not smart enough to avoid that.

The reason why it's safe now is because it's like the PS3-it doesn't understand the programming language of the virus so it just kicks it out. You can purposely install a virus and it won't know how to read it. However, without a doubt, Apple will have to open their computers eventually for 3rd party apps just like they have done for iphone with the growing users (I am one fo them). Once they do that, yeah I'll agree Apple is nicer but until then (highly unlikely), you need Windows.

Why do you think people always install Windows on their Mac (I do this myself too). Also, games are better on Windows OS. While I love my Apple Macbook Pro, it simply sucks without having a dual boot with Windows OS.

Explain more on your theory of Apple limiting what apps are "allowed" on the Mac.

Ever hear of MacPorts? Endless software available and all for free. Kind of like what Linux users have been used to for years. MacPorts is free, the software available to you is free, what's not to like?

I'm a Mac person, but I understand all of the points from the Windows side as well. I've used the RC of Win7 (on my Macbook, lol) and it's actually put together very nicely. Before you all continue your nice little flame wars (Sorry, but I get a kick out of you hardcore Macboys and Winboys dueling with each other over what's "better"), allow me to cover what I know of both.

Windows 7
-Not NT 7 but NT 6.1, THEORETICALLY making it Vista MkII.
-Runs great (especially on a Macbook *Mid 2007* like the one I have), runs 2x as fast as Windows Vista.
-Easier to use than Vista SP2.
-Support for Legacy apps with XP Mode.
-Refined Aero interface
-Still 32 bit. (Yes, I know a 64-bit version exists)
-CUDA, DX11 support.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
-New kernel designed specifically designed for the x86 instruction set.
-Fully 64 bit, compatibility mode for previous 32 bit apps.
-Grand Central Dispatch, OpenCL improve perfomance.
-Not a service pack. There are no security updates whatsoever.
-Security is improved, though, with all of the major applications (including Safari) built in running specifically on 64-biaccountt.
-Just refinements for performance on Intel.
-No PowerPC. Universal Binary is still supported, though.

Windows 7 is also bringing DirectX Compute to the table, which is essentially a better OpenCL.

No security updates whatsoever in Snow Leopard?

Re: "Here we are in yet another flame war."

My sentiments exactly. Thank you for putting my exact thoughts into such a concise statement. If only everyone took your advice, we wouldn't have the need for these superfluous debates.

My name is Luis and I'm a Linux PC. Though I have nothing against Apple, only against its users' condescension...and their stupidity. Oh there I go again, adding fuel to the fire...screw it, Apple sucks!

"Flame on fellow nerds!"

God dang, will you all stop bickering about a freaking OS. Let the business do the bashing, no one here is going to stop using their OS when someone says something like

"You Windows weenies really hate it when someone who has switched tells it like it is don't you? I mean come on, have any of you Bill Gates loving bunch ever actually used a Macintosh in the past year? 99% of the time, you haven't seen one since 1995 (or one made in 1995). Do yourselves a favour and try a Macintosh. I can't really blame someone that tries one, gives it a fair chance and then says "Eh, it's not for me". Hey, you at least tried it. But these imbeciles that keep saying stupid stuff like "Macs suck" and pulling out arguments that haven't been even arguably true for 20 years is getting really old. Most of us Macintosh owners have owned and or been forced to use Windows computers at one time or another. How many of you Windows shills have ever actually used one as their main machine?"

Nagging and insulting a user base is not the f*cking way to convert them. God, quit being fanboys, MS, Mac, Linux. Who gives a flip. You make your own companies look like idiots. And you too. Let someone make their own choice.

Windows 7 also focus on core functionality. It is a completely new kernel "WinMin" and it performs great. I tested Snow Leopard and Windows from early Beta stages (on an iMac no less) and Windows 7 used less memory than Snow Leopard. It was also quite more stable. Editors agree that the new Aero Peek feature is far more useful than Expose or the dock. It is kind of interesting how Apple has prettier hardware, but Windows has prettier software.

I have a PS3 and it conquers on both fronts. But this isn't the forum for that discussion.

GOD DAMN IT EVERYONE!

All of you are retards whining about Mac LInux or Windows is better.

THEY ALL HAVE BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS.

I use a Mac, but that doesn't mean you trash talk about Vista or Linux.

Windows has its own benefits, in a way its perfect for businesses for drawing up excel spread sheets and that sorta thing.

Mac is good for various types of artists and keeps our lives from going into boredom :P.

Linux is ummm, well Im not sure but I heard it was good for sound systems for theaters. OH YEAH ITS FREE!

Anyway, they all have their drawbacks

You people are just wasting your time yakking over nonsense. These three systems will always be different and I mean it ALWAYS different in purpose and structure.

SO go back to your lives (even though it might be ****) and lift the damn economy up.

Dang i should do that to :)

No matter what the discussion is, it's comparing Apples and Oranges. Dumb.

I have an iMac and OS X and a laptop with Windows 7 RC. They both have their place.

The end.

I really dont get the whole windows/ mac war I'm always reading. They are both good and bad in their own ways. I can understand the company degrading the other because they are competing with each other but why users feel the need to insult each other is beyond me. Personally I enjoy both platforms and have had both for many years. One is NOT better than the other just different idea of how computing should be. You pick what fits who you are and don't knock someone for choosing something different that fits them better. Keep the peace!

Wow ... all the pot shots are simply hilarious! In the end I don't give a s!@# where the innovation comes from as long as there's innovation. As long as Apple and Microsoft are the equivalent of matter / anti-matter we the consumer will truly benefit ... Yeah to Windows 7 ... Yeah to Snow Leopard!

At my high school most computers are Macs from Macs running the ridiculously slow OS9 to OSX Leopard. They do not work for me and i grew up using my mom's Mac and switched to a PC when i was in grade school. For what I do a PC is more compatible and i have more freedom. The new Macs are the fasted computers i've used but they don't cut it when I am becoming Cisco certified in school. That's just my opinion from both sides of the battle.

Did you know that Apple`s latest security roll-up for OSX was over 600 megabytes ?
It mostly patched holes in the UNIX core.
Quiet , they don`t want you to know...but it is a fact !

i'm both a windows and apple user.... i think at the very core level apple's OS is superior. lets admit it that the OS doesn't crash often, stable, less - if not at all - virus/malware, and starts up much faster than windows, it even starts up as fast as nothing ever happened after a crash. but, the problem in general is apple computers - and other devices ie. iphone - cant seem to make good on its real power ie. lack of compatability w/ other hardwares, or apps. whereas windows is exactly the opposite - much more vulnerable yet super compatible with other hardwares or apps. but i do have a complaint for apple in general, they make you have to buy buy buy for certain things that are standard on other products. heck every year they seem to want to make you buy a new version of iPhone. i mean, they have the 3G version following shortly the original iphone (at this stage still acceptable), but then, the iphone OS.3 MMS capability wont work on the original iphone - so you're going to feel that you should buy iphone 3G, now they have the new iphone 3GS, and again the OS.3 graphical/3D programming capability wont be compatible with the iPhone 3G.... does it mean we've to keep buying new iphones... its not about "oh even other manufacturers have different product versions, some have 3g some dont, some have autofocus some dont, etc.." - you have some sort of sense that either it's their business model to make people keep buying their products or they're not capable of projecting what new features will be in the NEAR future.... perhaps its because the iphones are so similar from the original to the last generation that we think "oh they should've thought of it for the earlier product so we dont feel cheated"... whereas with other manufacturers their products (size and shape) are completely different so that we kind of accept if each has different features...

I'm pretty sure Bertrand also said several times that they "love Leopard". I'm certain you won't here anyone from MS saying they "love Vista". Big difference.
