It seems silly to compare apples to... well you know what I mean.

Devoting so much time bashing your competition as well as your own partners (I know it's off topic but damn they threw AT&T under the bus!) only tells me they're concerned about their competition enough to devote precious time smearing them.

I'm not sure how saying anything about Windows 7, Vista, and any other non Apple technology contributes to a "Developer Conference". It's just a part of the marketing hype that I had to struggle through listenting to a long a boring keynote. It would have been only 15 minutes long if they stuck to the gems of news everybody really wanted to hear.

FYI, I own laptops and servers of both varieties (OSX and Windows) and like them both. I classify people that denigrate non-preferred Operating Systems in with the same people that are white supremacists. I wish those people would grow up and join the rest of the world that's diversified at least in their own ideals.

"performance of the 'windows' core" vs " better handling of 64-bit processing and multicore".
So both doing performance updates huh?

Windows 7 is great and I'm sure Snow Lepoard will be great too.
Why all the hate?

Microsoft ; Creates a huge amount of service jobs to maintain it's 'hold' on the market place. Mac OS X ; Brings a clean simplified and mostly secure desktop environment without malware headaches, viruses crashes (it does happen but very rarely). Runs on relatively cheap but well made equipment, OS X Server is Unix certified on both X Serve hardware and Mac Pro. This is a significant step for Apple given their history. Ubuntu/Suse/OpenSolaris ; Yes I know OpenSolaris is not Linux but these three OS for example among many, competing among the free are actually driving the standards faster than anyone else.

You can use Neo Office/Open Office and be much more profitable. There is no irony in your remark other than what seems to be a defeatist admission that you are in some way trapped by Microsoft. I know how you feel buddy. Just cut Microsoft loose for a much happier life. Trust me, I am an old dog and I've got your back on this one. Microsoft own you when you buy their software and that is their mentality, they don't sell software for any other purpose.

Boot Camp and Snow Leopard?

There were rumors that Snow Leopard would include some upgrades to Boot Camp, but I haven't seen any mention of that -- is it still in the "rumors" category?

Dont mean to ruin everyone's os war, since im a cliche mac/lunux/solaris user, but i'd like to bring up all the whiney ppc users complaining about the lack of support. I have a ppc imac that i love, but really, these computers are nearly a decade old, at the youngest half a decade. I dont think it could HANDLE any more new os's. I think its noteworthy that they kept ppc on so long. I love my ppc, and as far as im concerned its still the best processor, but its old. all i want is flash 10 and i'll be happy. b***hy ppc users, stop complaining

Ah, the battle between the PC and the Mac. 'tis a battle to behold. Go on people, keep on fighting, waste your time. Oh, and it doesn't matter which OS you are in, it's YOU that matters.
You use Windows? Fine, if you're smart enough to use a good antivirus, and know what and who to avoid, then it's ok.
You use OS X? Great, you can work right on. Just bear with the fact that it has almost no big games. But it really is a safe and usable OS.

I guess I just don't get it. Outside of liking where your OS happens to store your buttons, give me a small list of features that Apple has in it's OS that might make a current PC user spend an extra $500 the next time around on a Mac? I just read a lot of comments without a whole lot of substance. Outside of security and stability, which really aren't a concern for me now as I haven't had a virus or spyware infection since win 95 and I haven't had Windows crash on me more than a handful of times since moving to Vista. The oddities in Vista were never really more than a minor nuisance to me outside of the performance hit I took in switching from XP.

As a person who likes watching movies and listening to music, I stream much of that to my XBox over the network to play on my TV and stereo. That is one feature of Windows that I like and as far as I'm aware doesn't exist on the Mac (without buying additional hardware and/or software).

Another would be that, while I don't play a lot, I do like playing the occasional game on my laptop, and there is simply a far better array of games for Windows, than the Mac.

How about some real substance, I'm willing to listen, I'm just hearing a whole lot of garbage out there.

Are you kidding me...windows 7 isn't just another version of Vista...and hey, even if it was what rights does apple have to criticize. It's no as if Snow Leopard was a major innovation to Apples current OS it's merely an under the hood upgrade and some stuff they should've fixed a long time ago. So essentially both Snow leopard and Windows 7 are not significant OS changes but just under the hood stuff. as an RC I've been happy with windows 7 compared to windows vista...only complaint is that there's no 64 bit flash plug in yet for the gadgets.

These arguments always make me laugh. If whatever you have works for you, why do you have to get online and argue about it? Does anyone ever think that maybe some people's needs are better suited with a mac and others with windows based pc's? I'm a happy windows user and I'm excited for windows 7 but if someone told me they're going to spend the extra money for a mac I wouldn't sit them down and argue with them and tell them all the things a pc does for me. Both operating systems have ups and downs and neither is better than the other in general, just better in certain situations.

I love how Apple is digging on MSFT for "releasing the exact same product with a new name", the a few hours later shows us the "new" iPhone. Pot kettle black...

To buy an Apple computer that is even close to the speed of my custom made windows rig I would have to spend about over $10,000. I like building my own computer and having complete control, plus, its way faster.

""That's Windows 7," he said. "Fundamentally, it's just another version of Windows Vista." "

Dumbest quote of the day winner. OS 10.6 is just another version of OS 10.5, is it not?

yes, but 10.5 wasn't plagued with problems.
by tipoo_ June 9, 2009 11:46 AM PDT
And your point is? That has nothing to do with the quote. He's trying to make it seem like 7 will have all the problems Vista did, but it certainly doesn't.

as far as "work", I do desktop publishing, video & music production mostly. i don't play games & don't have cable so i use Hulu, Current TV, network websites, a torrent or 2 & soon to try Netflix for my entertainment, i use email, do some research & read news online, that's mostly what i do w/ my computers. i own 2 PPC Macs--17" iMac G4 @ my church for desktop publishing & some graphics work, a DP 2GHz G5 for my video, music work & 2 Intel Macs--a white MacBook for taking to my job, the only Mac in my theatre, except for the Scenic Designer & a 17" iMac CD for my media center/server(ripped all my CDs & 60 DVD movies w/ more to go, into iTunes-for my iPods & streaming around the house to my MacBook). for my work & my entertainment Mac works for me so, thats what i use. i have friends & colleagues who use PCs/Windows & some who use both-even a good bud who loves Mac, but needed to have Windows for work, so it's on her MBP & she's happy she didn't have to buy/carry 2 computers, but essentially got a 2-fer. use whatever you like/need, that works for you & just does what you need to be done. i love my Macs, they work for me. i don't care what anybody else uses & it doesn't matter in many cases. at the end of the day does it matter to the end user of your product--in my case movies, music & publishing, if it was created with a Mac, a PC or whatever? i enjoyed Kung Fu Panda(made w/ HP/Windows?) & Cars(made w/ Mac). advertising is what it is, it may way some, but not most. no advert can beat word of mouth--if someone thinks a product is bad they may tell 20 people(sorta what happened w/ Vista Launch), if they think it's good they may tell 5-most people make the biggest, loudest noise about bad experiences--sorta like the evening news.

all my current Macs run Mac OS X10.5, that will change w/ Snow Leopard & i knew the day would come--PPC support would end. will my older Macs still run? yes. will i still be able to run Final Cut Studio 2 on my DP G5? yes. so i'll trudge on, using them until i can get that 8-core MacPro & the G4 iMac dies(knocks wood) & only upgrade the 2 Intel Macs. i can't run the new Hulu desktop app--the iMac is a 1.83 CPU & i don't need 2 GB of RAM on my MacBook to do what i need it to do, but it's no big deal--i've been using my browser & my subscriptions work. i'm happy. we are all(Mac/Windows/PC/Linux) in a never-ending upgrade or die(lose support) cycle in some way from somewhere, yet many times we find work-arounds that get refined or tweaked to make/keep our current stuff(hardware or software) useable. keep on keepin' on! B-)

You can trust Apple to first bash windows 7 calling it, just a better Vista, and then expect the crowd to cheer by calling snow leopard a better leopard. Even with Vista anyone can get more done with a PC, because the software base of the Mac is a joke. and as far as stability is concerned, i havent booted my vista box in months, and its running just fine. not to mention who wants to write viruses for an OS that has less than 10% market share. So stop touting your silly virus free Mac ads.

***. Why would macs having a smaller market share mean that being virus free is less compelling. And great if that is your experience with windows, but that view is not shared by a lot of people.

Is that why PC World said the iLife was the best software suite out there currently? It's $79 for the software and free on a new computer. Good stuff really if you've never had the pleasure to use it.

This had flame wars written all over it. Windows 7 does look great, and Ia have used it. I like the idea of the superbar, but I like having the icons more centered in Mac OS X. Just a personal preference. I think I will be upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I will wait on Windows 7 to upgrade my windows computers, jsut to see if there are any new problems that can come with a brand new release.

My main deal is the fact that when something goes wrong with windows, you get an error code. You may not know what it means off the top of your head, but at least there's something for you to look up. When I saw a mac go wrong a month or 2 ago, there was no error code. Just a blank screen with a frowny face. How the heck am I supposed to google "frowny face error" and get any significant results? Also considering the fact macs cost more for (basically) equivalent hardware, all the good games come out for PC first, and all these horrible bugs and viruses mac users keep talking about only effect pc users who don't really know what they're doing... it becomes pretty obvious that macs are for computer users who are too dumb to use a pc properly. :-)

Is it just me suffering from deja-vu or have 99% of the comments on this story been said on every other CNET page that mentions Apple or Microsoft.
Never mind, it's entertaining just reading them.
