Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
During her years at CNET News, Ina Fried has changed beats several times, changed genders once, and covered both of the Pirates of Silicon Valley. These days, most of her attention is focused on Microsoft.

Silverlight? They still think it has legs? Ha. Forget it. HTML 5, CSS Animation, and other W3C standards are the future. Not proprietary nonsense like this. Flash is too entrenched on the media player front. It too will yield to open standards eventually. Silverlight is too late to the part where we can already see its end.
In other words, proprietary software is great as long as it doesn't come from microsoft? You're just another ms hating troll.
Chrome spoiled me. IE8 seems like a big ugly mess (as does firefox). Maybe the final will be better (smaller/cleaner) but I don't see a design change of that size coming.
Chrome is the quickest browser to load, the quickest when changing tabs, and like Safari, you can make tabs their own window and drag them back into the main browser. It is also very fast at rendering web pages and AJAX stuff. The design allows more real estate and is simple and uncluttered compared to other browsers.
Also there is a incognito mode if you are worried about Google recording your movements.
I know when I use another browser they really do feel sluggish in comparison, even including Firefox which use to be my browser of choice.
Nothing causes me more grief then IE7 and IE8. I'm using the RC of IE8 and the released version of IE7. (OS is Windows Vista Business) I just hope the final release is better then the RC. The IE8 RC is far better then the Beta's of it by a long shot. My IP requires it use.
Ina's your a five star Journalist in my book. Timely content, relevant content, consistently well written and no Bias. It's time to promote Ina Cnet.
