Well, this is bad news item no. 3 for Apple. First the layoffs, then the iPhone developers
not being able to renew their contracts, and now this.
I haven't yet completed browsing this edition of c/net. Wonder if there's a
"bad news item no. four" tucked away.

Win 7 will be ready by September school season. othewise PC sales will nosedive even further as consumer and business stay with existing hardware (and software ). and more PC makers will install Linex. and more users will switch to Mac. hope MS has most of the bugs solved. would like to see a more robust and less complicated OS. or is that too much to expect from MS?

Haha. Funny how Windows users are making this out like this will change the whole OS game. Nope. XP is great but everything else is crap. Ubuntu = 10x better than 7. Faster, Easier (yup) and even beats the flashiness of Vista. I actually was trying to install Windows XP/Vista in two computers and you know what? I couldn't. It didn't recognize my hard drive and it wasn't broken. So I did the smart choice and installed Ubuntu on both the computer and boom, done. Simple. I had OpenOffice for a Word replacement and Gimp for Photoshop. K3B over Nero, VLC/MPlayer for video, Deluge over uTorrent, FileZilla for FTP and Pidgin for MSN/AIM. Enough said.

If you think Gimp is a replacement for photoshop you're sadly mistaken. Yes its a great program, but in my opinion photoshop has way more features and capabilities.
Don't know how it couldn't see your hard drive either? You running some wierd RAID or something?

Not saying Ubuntu is bad, I use 8.10 on my laptop and 9.10 on my netbook (still can't get wireless to work on it after recompiling the kernel several times). Oh and I also use Vista and XP on my other computers and they are both good OSes as well. Depends on what you want done I guess.

@sythara
compiling kernel *** is that, I've been using Ubuntu since 7.04 and I have never had to compile no kernel. I ask you the same question what kind of config are you running on those laptops. Oh I C it only works with windows. LOL sucks for you buddy. Try getting some support for it on the #ubuntu channel. Funny I have never had a problem with wireless and I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 -8.10 on countless of desktops and laptops so far no issues.

And yes GIMP is just as good as photoshop, the issue is that since most people never used it and have only used photoshop anything else they try they say it can't compare. The funny part about it is that I can't use Photoshop anymore because it feels weird to me, there are certain functions in GIMP I use which Photoshop does not have and if it does I don't know how to do it. So because of my lack of knowledge in photoshop should I say photoshop sucks absolutely not.

"...if Microsoft is able to increase the number of premium versions of Windows being used on Netbooks. "

Putting the premium version of Windows 7 on Netbooks will kill that market as much as Vista killed the market for consumer notebooks. Why are netbooks selling so briskly? two letters: XP. Business notebooks are also doing decently because of Vista business, and bundled downgrade rights to XP. That left a big hole in the middle for Vista Basic and Home equipped consumer notebooks. Consumer Notebook with Vista Basic or Home + XP license = same cost as a business notebook (or a Macbook) If the cost of those options are too high, buy a netbook to get XP.

Yeah and now they will say "see is because these nerds just think they are smarter" Opps funny thing I used to be one of these windows users unitl I went and purchased a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium, and don't give be this BS on how it was because its Home Premium edition. The Damn thing sucks period.

@MiddleEasternBoy. Rude? Yep. That can happen when somebody persistently posts made up facts, skewed truths, and outrageous lies (like several of the people who post here) on a daily basis. People will be rude to them. Example: applerocks1996 consistenly posts that windows 7 sux (starting on the day the beta was released) when it's obvious he hasn't even tried it. Everyone is rude to him.

Reya276. If you don't like it, then don't use it. Use something else. That's your choice. We are all individuals and no one single OS will be the best choice for everyone. Since you already have a PC, I suggest you use XP or try Ubuntu.
