Vista has many problem when it first came out, that's why I switched to the Mac, I was fed with waiting, OS X with right there, ready and available and it works very well!!!!!!!!!!

When Windows 7 comes out, hopefully it will run on a 2GHz machine, because I am not going to go and buy a new computer just to try it out.

And after 5 service packs with a sixth coming you kind of hope it would.

you guys are all toolbags - anything posted about microsoft automatically generates a lot of traffic. cnet gets to boast about bigger numbers while you guys yapp about nothing.

geez one could generate huge add revenue simply by writing daily commentary about the latest and greatest about windows, apple and linux, then letting the flame wares take over.

You're largely right, and while it's despicable, it works. You read the story, comments, and posted one yourself. All during which you generated more page views for their advertisers.

We're all part of the problem by feeding the machine.

" people...get off this XP is great bandwagon. Vista is stable, a joy to use and miles better than XP...XP is so outdated."

Sure Vista is stable, if you call "the blue screen of death" stable that is.
by Mark_Anderson October 29, 2008 2:51 AM PDT
See comments like Bartlett's just show the kind of knuckle dragging moron who posts anti-MS rhetoric without actually trying the product.

Give me examples of where specifically YOU are getting BSODs or stop your shilling.
by jessiethe3rd October 28, 2008 5:19 PM PDT
honestly... have we seen any EVOLUTION/REVOLUTION in the OS? No... Apple does it the same way that they always has with a few little added doo dads... Microsoft is guilty on the same accord. Some small changes but nothing big. There is nothing truely revolutionary out there. Just a bunch of marketing hype to try and gain more traction... make customer happy...

Dude....... do you even have a Mac?
by JoyceNgo-218335993631273378369 October 29, 2008 12:21 PM PDT
Oh please BOTH Microsoft and Apple are guilty of the small changes. I use Mac in school and I use Windows at home, and if people say Windows have such little change, then I hardly see any changes in Macs.

I'm going to laugh at people who turn off UAC and then have crapware/spyware problems.

I turned it off, I don't have any? I'm sure millions of other people did the same and have no problems.
by Stang5150 October 30, 2008 6:08 AM PDT
Same here. I turned off UAC as soon as I purchased my computer and since it was not something used in previous OS's I didn't see a need for it since I'm pretty sure I know what programs I install/run and I keep my Antivirus and Firewalls up to date. It was just another babysitting program for Grandma and Grandpa who only used their puter for getting emails from the grandkids.

I think the question should be: Will Win 7 be released in our lifetimes?

W7 better than Vista? Sure, a knee-job with a nail gun would be more enjoyable than Vista.

And Sumatra demonstrates the average anti-MS shill's intelligence by failing to understand what "your comment may not appear immediately means".

Honestly, did El Jobso's recruiting wagons pick you striaght up from the McDonald's counter or what?

So far Stickies is the best improvement I see on Windows 7. Hopefully, Microsoft will make a much further effort to take Windows to a higher level and not just give Vista a face lift. Windows has an exploding potential, it can be much better than what has been seen up to date.

I'm not sure why you write. I find your commentary drab, and frankly I'm certain you hate windows. If I wanted to listen to Garbage I would go elsewhere. I implore you Ina please stop writing on windows, stick to mac cometary, it's what you love. I would like some one who didn't go into the article with a **** poor attitude, please.

I really like Mac but I never got the chance to get one because my parents tell me it's way too expensive and stuff. Plus I noticed people complained about the new MacBook not having the essentials like firewire and such. Anyway I tried Vista because it's an OS that came with my laptop. As I thought, with everyone saying Vista is slow, I was agreeing with the majority without any research and listened to my uncle (who is very good with computers) who wanted to install Ubuntu on the laptop. I refused because I told him I needed Windows and I got too lazy to install XP. I'm pretty glad this happened because I don't have a Vista CD and this OS seems ok (compared to what many people said) except for the large icons and the icon sizes changing randomly, difficulty moving and copying files, the strange add/remove programs, the reorganizing and renaming stuff, and the new shiny interface with the sidebar. I DID mine the UAC but I was able to shut it off because I know what I'm doing, even without it, I feel absolutely safe; I haven't had a problem with the OS for a while, when I used to use XP on my desktop I would always get a problem that I couldn't fix..

So in other words, I think Vista is actually ok despite what many have said.

Windows ME was "better" than Win 98se, too. THINK about that...and see my comment below. ;)

{Yawn} Guess you think your impressing someone with your comment. Obviously you're a Mac user but do you really think any of your naively juvenile comments will ever be effective in convincing a Windows User to switch? Seriously, grow up. You're even embarassing to Mac users.

How can all of you be so judgemental on Windows 7 already? We dont even have benchmarks, specs, or reviews of the upcoming product. Until all of us obtains the final copy and install it on our machines, then spew your opinions. Til then, lets just hope that it surpasses Vista in every way and offers a TRUE replacement for all XP users.

Windows 7 is going to be what every other release has been: a cheap, poorly done rip off of Mac OS.

MSFT "rammed Vista down end users throats" on New PCs. Only later did PC Manufacturers decide to offer XP for those who don't want/like Vista. I will stick with XP. The very FACT that PC manufacturers started offering XP Machines say volumes about Vista. I build PCs, for myself and others, a "Vista Capable" PC can run XP WAY faster & better. Vista is a resource hungry OS with driver bugs and a UI only a Mac Lover would like. And, the UAC is a pain in the rear. Yes, it can be turned off. But MOST end users that buy machines don't have clue as to how.

Drivel.

The tests undertaken by Extreme Tech show you to be utterly wrong as far as speed is concerned. Use XP on legacy hardware if you want but you're a fool if you use it on a new machine.
by David_G. October 29, 2008 8:07 PM PDT
Is that a joke? They should rename it "windows vista SP2" instead...

wow, a patch for vista.

windows: doing in only 14 gigs of code what linux and OS X do in 2 gigs, 6 years ago.

but don't worry, 7 has touch capabilities al over in it!

so in several years, for a couple of grand, i can get on my full sized PC what i already have on my iPod. the innovation, it just doesn't stop!

Excuse me?

First of all Vista isn't 16GB and OSX most certainly isn't 2GB.

Honestly, if you don't have a clue what you're talking about please spare us your ignorant drivel.

the biggest thing i didnt like about vista when it released, and even until about a year after, was that nothing was compatible with the os. even now, there are a lot of programs, etc. the are only xp compatible

Had a chance to look at the pre-beta Win 7 and would like to say this.... I?ve been using PC?s since their inception and have honestly felt that Vista was the worst OS that MS ever made (for example I hate the hierarchy in the address bar (or lack there of) and wish they?d change it back.

Looking at Win7, I don?t see any real differences between it and the Vista kernel. So I think I can make the prediction that Win7 will be another MS failure. I guarantee that those of us who purchase PCs (for our work) will avoid Win7 (as we have avoided Vista).

Also, no offense but I personally disagree with those of you who think Vista is a better OS than previous OS'. It may be a bit more stable, but for those of us that have been using PCs for over 25 years (and have written several software applications as well), Vista was not an improvement. Yea, it had new bells & whistles, but many of the core methods were removed. If you don?t believe me, do a search on the subject & you'll see the majority of Vista users don?t like it. Just my opinion though!
