And what's really cool about Maxtor/Seagate is that, when the drive fails, they will conveniently connect you with their data recovery group, which will recover your data for only 10X the cost of the drive itself!

I do wish the company offered a warranty longer than one year (what happened to three years?), but data recovery is a service like any other. All the more reason to make regular backups.

This actually isn't that good a deal. These days you can get a 500Gb external drive for $99 at the occasional sale at OfficeMax or Staples. Be on the lookout for those.

In terms of price-per-megabyte, you're right. But for a compact, portable drive, this is about as good as it gets.
