Years ago I got the z680 (5.1 with dolby and DTS decoder). I was EXTREMELY impressed, except the bass was complete overkill even at the lowest setting. I solved the problem by stuffing the reflex and covering the front with cushions. If these speakers have the same neodymium rare earth magnets in the speaker drivers you are in for a high fidelity feast at a very low cost.

Are these speakers suitable to hook up to a laptop?

I think you would have no problem hooking them up to a laptop just as long as you don't plan on moving the speakers with the laptop. Might be overkill though unless you use the laptop (at its station) for alot of media or games.

I'm seriously considering getting them to replace my $20 set of 2.0 speakers (considering how nice my computer setup is, my speakers are pretty pathetic). $80 for a set of normally $200+ speakers, they look like a great deal.

I have these and they have worked flawlessly. The subwoofer isn't overpowering and the sound is crystal clear. Keep in mind however that these do tax your system a little because they're USB which means they bypass your soundcard. Because of that the subwoofer is VERY heavy and hard to hide. The media center remote these comes with is almost worth the 80 bucks itself. It's really quite nice!

Some other notable pluses:
-there is a display on the right speaker that shows your current volume, bass, treble, surround sound, power, and channel balance. It's pretty nifty. There is also an onscreen overlay that comes up everytime you turn the volume up/down...i recommend turning this off which can be done in the logitech software.
-the speakers are a little on the quiet side. But I haven't had any trouble getting them to let loose when I need to.

Overall they are well worth the money especially if you have a Windows Media center box.

The THX certified Z-2300 gets higher marks. Have this set and it is simply awesome.

I wont these speakers from logitech a few years ago when i worked at Dell. I have them hooked up to my XPS desktop and 42' inch TV and they are perfect. They are perfect for tv and surround sound and great for my media center. I use the aux port to my TV and USB to the computer. I can easily go back and forth.

Hey Rick, I just wanted to let you know at Video Only in San Mateo they have a 50 inch LG LCD TV for $799. It's one hell of a deal if you ask me. I have no clue what the model # is. It kills me to be financially responsible and pass up this great offer! I still use a regular old 36 inch tube TV. If you are in the Bay Area its worth the drive!

probably should make it clear that this is PC ONLY, they can work with MAc when you change the settings to Z-cinema in sound preferences, but you can't use all of its power to change bass easily, treble, or the remote very easily. Still great speakers.

I just ordered these speakers- I was told that any order over 100 dollars I would only be charged 2 dollars. The nice think is that they are offering an Antivirus software for 80 bucks which is free with a mail in rebate. In the end I will have only paid 82 dollars. Rick- this is a great site.

Except for the fact that I need a fighting stick to play Blazblue with I'd jump on these speakers... but alas I must resist for the ability of being able to actually DESTROY my competition rather than just hearing SQUIGGLY JUSTICE TACKLE! and HI THERE BOOBIE LADY! in very good sound quality....
