Comments on: Get three HDMI cables for 10 bucks shipped

Don't get suckered into buying overpriced cables when these cheapies are just as good. You don't really need to pay $30, $50, or even $80 for a single 6-footer at a big-box store.

i bought a cheap hdmi cable from an online retailer before and now im having issues. the cable goes from my computer to my philips lcd hdtv and the signal gets there fine, and video quality is excellent. but i recently installed a hd dvd/bluray combo drive and it says my display isn't hdcp compliant. but i know it definitely is, it says right on the tv manual hdcp compliant and it does have the latest firmware installed. my video card is a radeon HD 2600XT which also says hdcp compliant, so the only thing i can think of that may be the problem is my hdmi cable not transfering data fast enough for the hdcp handshake to occur.

but maybe it is just an isolated incident. the larger issue is that hdcp is a nightmare. sorry for getting off topic! i just wanted to warn people that maybe the cheapest cables arent the best choice. although for 10 bucks to get three? probably worth the risk.

I recently had this issue, and was pissed off that nobody told me before I bought my graphics card. My graphics card says "HDCP compliant" on it as well, but the kicker is that the HDMI/DVI port on the card ALSO has to be HDCP compliant, something which my particular card (manufacturer and model) was not. Most (if not all) HDMI cables are HDCP compatible, so no need to really worry there. I'm not sure how you would test this unless you either bought a new video card, or had a XBOX360, PS3 or up-converting DVD player around that you could test the cable with.

I have to disagree with ya Rick, I have helped several people with HDMI issues that were traced to 'cheap' cables (cheap in quality, not price). That doesn't mean go buy the overpriced cables, but be smart about what you buy.

I recommend monoprice.com to all my friends because you can buy high quality HDMI cables really inexpensively.

My personal experience with the exorbitantly priced brands is that not only do they NOT provide noticeable improvement, but often their performance has even been subpar to much cheaper cables.

I've had mixed luck with the budget cables. I typically order them from Amazon for $3 PLUS shipping, of $6. - EACH.

So far, 6 out of 8 worked fine. 2 of them, were a different brand than the others, and they 'died' after a little use.

I second the plug for monoprice. I've told family and friends that if they buy an HDTV/anything needing an HDMI cable, I'm willing to order it for them if they don't shop online. I can't stand the $100 ripoffs at the retailers!

I needed a 25' HDMI cable so we could connect a laptop to my TV and be able to sit on the couch. After having Radio Shack offer me a 6-footer for $130 ("It's gas filled, sir, top-of-the-line!"), I found one on Amazon for under $10, shipped. It works great. Don't waste your money on outrageously priced cables. --mark d.
