Comments on: Get a 22-inch LCD with HDMI for $149.99

With HDMI and speakers, TigerDirect is offering a new Hanns-G 21.6-inch wide-screen LCD monitor, not a refurb, and you don't have to deal with any pesky rebates.

I have a question about a 22 inch monitor that I purchased recently (it's actually a Viewsonic 22inch LCD TV). I have it hooked up to my laptop through the VGA port, because that's the only connection I have on my laptop.

Would the picture look better if I used a VGA to DVI cable, or a VGA to HDMI cable (is there such a thing)?

Open to advice/suggestions. The picture is fine, just wanted to see if I could improve things at all.

No.

No VGA = Analog signal, DVI and HDMI are Digital signals, changing the wire won't make anything better. You need to change the source signal, in this case since you using a laptop you won't be able to.

No, you would still just be getting a VGA signal. The source (PC/Laptop) needs to support DVI or HDMI.

However, DVI is a major improvement over VGA. I would ditch HDMI though; DVI is better and more compatible among PC equipment.

no dvi, no problem... dvi to hdmi adapters only run a few bucks on newegg... Dvi and HDMI are both the exact same thing as far as the video side is concerned. heres an adapter cable on Newegg for under $10 shipped: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270113

knowing Hannspree it'll already come with the adapter, it's about 2m/7ft long.

Also no suprise it was Hannspree since their monitor's usually run at $40-80 less than other monitors in their class

You can get an Acer (better rated than this one) at Newegg for $169, and has had 1 day sales for $149. It does not have speakers, but you really do not want those build it. The Acer may not have HDMI, but does have DVI which is better supported than HDMI anyway.

Personally, I think having to deal with Tiger Direct the major drawback of this Hann deal.

If your wanting to get this monitor for next gen consoles or blu-ray, I would pass since this has a 16:10 aspect ratio and is not full 1080p (even though at this size it is not gonna matter).

It's a shame. While I would not worry about "1080p" I would have loved to have been able to recommend this to friends who want a very small HD TV. just connect it to a cable via HDMI and BANG! Simple HDTV.

actually it does matter. If it's not the proper aspect ratio. I just bought a 200 dollar HDCP compliant monitor that I hooked up to my PS3 and I couldn't see the 2 inches on the right hand side even after messing with every setting on both the system AND the monitor.

For people that have a crappy CRT monitor they should jump on this. For people that want Hi Def PS3/360 action, be wary.

Also... I don't know a single person that knew Hannspree as a brand... and... well... having a monitor go out on you would just make you deal with the warranty or get a new more trusted brand.

I was so dissapointed with the Acer monitor I had bought for 200... Mostly cause it was my first time really actually seeing what HD looked like and I was so enamored with how much better it looked I took it back with my heart set on buying something better, but... Decided I can't afford better right now T_T

Rick if you have a 26 inch HD T.V. deal coming up for around or under 350 from a good brand with good reviews and great reliability... please hook us up.

I'm sorry Rick, but this deal is not as good as it seems. For the same or a few $ more you can get an Asus or Acer
