does the new nano not work at all with this dock or will it just not take a charge?

I think it's just the latter, but I'm not positive. Best bet would be to check with Altec Lansing. The product page doesn't mention 4th-gen nanos, but it stands to reason they'll at least play...

It will probably work to play music, but it will not take a charge. I have found this to be the case with my newer Nano and my iPhone 3G when using them with the older iPod accessories. However, as Rick said it is best to check with Altec-Lansing.

I have a 2nd gen Ipod touch, I checked the Altec Lansing site and I'm still not sure if its compatible.

Bought one! Thanks, Rick. I had bought another iPod dock for my wife for Christmas, but I'm sure she'd like this one better. The other one is going up on eBay.
