You may not love coal, but you use a lot of it. Peabody Energy's Greg Boyce says the company will even participate in cleaning the stuff up.

I consider myself pretty tuned-in on energy news, but I'm lost reading this article. I've never once heard the word "gasification" and "enhanced oil recovery" sounds dubious. Someone help me. I need this article to be dumbed-down a bit.

the textbook definitions off the net. It is easier to understand when you apply this definition; Processes contrived to cost the consumer more money for less energy in order to placate global warming alarmists.

Gasification:In plane language it is a Smart Fire Place where flue gas is collected and cleaned for usage and is called Producer Gas(or SynGas). Coal or Wood can be used for Gasification. In Gasifier Coal or Wood is feed in a controlled way(Assume a Fire Place where you load wood from Top and take ash from down). Producer Gas has High Energy Values(like Diesel). Producer gas can be converted to Diesel also. Hope it helps you to understand Gasification.
