I laughed out loud when I read this? Absolutely ridiculous. If Sony and MS would stop skimping on RAM, give the system and the video components plenty, then developers could very easily make games that take full advantage of the 6 active cores on the PS3. Think Crysis-grade graphics on the HDTV.
Moreover, console production is a loss leader. Produce the consoles at a loss and make profit on the games. Shareholders expect these consoles to stick around for a while so Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo can reap the benefits of game sales to make up for the losses in console production. An announcement of a new console now could upset shareholders who think the company should still be turning a profit on the old ones.
They've been able to expand into all of the other uses for the console (communications, video, web browsing, etc.) with firmware updates and new SKUs of the existing platforms.

- i am anxious to see the next gen consoles but to be honest i dont think very many people will buy the nxt-gen unless they are extremely good because ps3 already has $300 powerful console with bluray and free wifi but a lot of xbox owners will probably buy new xbox
