He's considered the best skateboarder ever, and his video games have become one of the most successful franchises. Although Hawk is retired, he still has plenty going on.

Why is the Cnet journalist surprised that Tony Hawk, Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong are more well-known than Peyton Manning, LeBron James and Dale Earheart Jnr? Skateboarding, golf and cycling are popular in many countries. Gridiron and NASCAR are US-only sports, and basketball doesn't have much of a following outside North America either.
