I don't own any iPods. Never liked them much. I'm a creative Lab man myself. Seriously, I find the iPod too restrictive. It only uses itunes; a player should be able to use any format. It does not let you put the music files back in your PC or move them to another PC. Plus they are very trendy; everybody is flashing them on the train. I have a remote for my Zen Vision M 30GB so I don't have to take it out of my pocket.
And for $200, it's more than worth it.

I received my first 40GB iPod about 4 years ago. About 2-1/2 years ago I had to replace the battery (fairly easy to do yourself), and that lasted a while. I started getting a bad clicking in the disk and it died about 2 months ago. Luckily, my wife had bought me an 80 GB last Christmas. I have maxed out the storage already, and adding a 160 GB iPod would just about hold all my music, but for how long? And I'm not sure I want to continue to use iTunes, because I think it really sucks on a Windows machine. Even the simplest tasks will make iTunes go incredibly slow, and I have seen it grow to 193MB resident in memory and use 99% of all computer resources -- just to edit a song title. Very bad programming, guys, you need to start again and streamline your code. And I sure wouldn't use the AAC format again if I had to import all of my CDs, the quality leaves something to be desired. Now I use all mp3 format. I have purchased two players for my wife, her first was an iRiver which she liked because she was a serious runner and it was very portable and durable. She outgrew that and bought herself an 80GB iPod, which she uses to download podcasts, audiobooks and all this chick music. Well, isn't that what we all love about our players, we can all carry the music we love with us. I love using shuffle within a music genre -- it's like having a radio station that plays all your favorite music. And with a current 27,500 songs on my iPod, there is a lot of new music left for me to discover.

I bought a 2nd gen nano a few years ago to replace a crappy little stick mp3 player that was starting to fall apart. about a year or so ago now, my ipod got stolen at work, and never returned. so after 2 weeks i decided to get a new one. i took a look at all the different kinds, but i generally prefer to stick with something that i know works, especially becasue i have terrible luck with electronics- i break everything! the ipod seems pretty durable though, so i just got a new 2nd gen nano. Everyone keeps askng me about getting a new one becasue mine is only a 2G, but that is just right for me. i dn't personally see the need for a player that fits 1000 songs or whatever, particularly with such a simple straightforward computer interface like itunes. i have been toying latley with the notion of upgrading to 3rd gen, howver, for the video feature. we'll see.

as for accessories and downloads, i have recently been using the itunes store a fair bit, and now have 110 songs from it, mostly singles, but with several full albums (Weird Al, KT tunstall, hockey practice, Orgy) and a few videos. i also have (somewhere) a sports armband by Apple and an encloed soft case with removable armband and belt attachment by Roots. I had a (rubber?) case on my old ipod, but have decided since that it's too much hassle to keep it straight, so did not get a new one. i also have a portable charger that works w/ the USB cord, and an iLive portable ipod/cd/radio player, as well as an Apple Remote (although i don't actually have a dock to use it with, as i didn't know i needed one at the time and i can only find them online for $50 + tax).

I have only one iPOD. It's a Generation 5--80GB. I found it at a bus stop late at night, and kept it. Stealing? I don't think so, since there was no way of finding the owner. I kind of like it, but iTUNES is pretty weak; I mean there are only a handful of TV programs and movies to pick from and most of them suck IMHO. Yes, I know you can download YouTube videos to iTUNES, but there is too much converting and such. I am proud to say I bow down to Sony Mini Disc, the simple version. I had a Hi-MD 1GB recorder, but it didn't last as long as the LPMD recorder. I currently have two MD player/recorders and swear by them. iPODs have non-replaceable batteries, just short of sending it to Apple and spending megabucks on a new battery or taking it apart, voiding the warranty and hoping you don't do something stupid. Sony batteries aren't cheap, but they are easily replaceable and with a non-portable.....well, 'nuff said. iPOD is also predominately computer based only; unless you purchase an aftermarket microphone or input device, like the Belkin Tune Talk, which I bought and works great, but the iPOD reads this incoming data as "voice memos" which can only be listened to in continuation if you dump them into iTUNES first, then put them in whatever order to play as aforementioned. With a portable MD recorder, you can record anything, anytime, anywhere, then listen without using a computer. iPOD has a built in hard drive and anything more than the allotted GB of data than it will hold, you will have to transfer back and forth to your iTUNES library. With MD, you have a hard plastic enclosed mini-disc that is removable for extensive music collections, and that, in my opinion, is the only drawback--music only. I like the fact that there are a lot of upgrades and optional accessories for Apple, but I'm just not impressed with the fact that heavy users will have to abandon their battery sooner than later and that it's not cheap or easy to replace. I have a few accessories including a Decalgirls "Benjamins" skin, wall plug and USB 2.0, remote/charger base, DLO leather case, Decalgirls screen protector, Belkin Tune Talk, and purchased about 270 songs, 8 movies, 1 game=Sims pool and some other stuff . I will say that podcasts are the way too cool and nothing else portable can compare to that ingenuity that Apple came up with, so far. One more thing, MP3 and other forms of data compression have significant drops in sound quality AKA degradation or distortion, MD is just a small CD, there is no loss of sound at all, unless you use the LP (long play for anyone who never had a turntable) record mode, and even then it's very minimal, even if you have a musicians ear. In Apple's defense, I must say, I am impressed with their music selection in iTUNES, having a excellent selection of hard to find underground hip-hop, which is what most of the 270+ songs downloaded to the POD are. Thanks for reading this.

I've never purchased ANY apple product and I never will. There are better mp3 players for less money. I get all my mp3's from Russian web sites for 15 cents each. So I get better files that are not crippled for less money.

I've had 3 iPods, the most recent is a classic160 GB. I know the iTunes's flaws, but love to organize my library with it, in spite of I don't buy anything at the iTunes store... Is it too proprietary? Yes, but there are many workarounds... Never had a resource consuming problem whit iTunes, probably because I have a Core2Quad 6600 running WinXp, 2GB RAM... I don't know. IMHO no one can deny the IPod's influence in pop culture, as the Sony's walkman did at it's time; for many people to say "iPod" is to say mp3 player. I was reluctant to buy a device from apple, but once I saw its ease of use and smart design... well, what can I say? I fell in love with it.
Accesories? Of course, a few: A bluetooth adapter (Myblu) which I can use with my ShureE4c earphones (love them both) and tune in radio stations; a RF dock station (Keyspan AV Dock) connected to a Logitech Z5500 digital 5.1 THX certified sound system, and about to receive my 2nd Keyspan dock, a TuneView; a lot of rubber and leather cases, the last ones are a Kaftan case (hand-crafted in Turkey) and a CoverCase Napa black leather case? you might think I?m an Ipod junkie? it just makes me happy.

I have the latest (last one introduced) iPod shuffle. I use it in the gym, that's about it. I also have the U2 black and red 30g -- I liked the color scheme (not U2 necessarily). And I have an original 20g model which is in excellent condition. Innovation is great but Jobs/Apple introduce/update the iPods too frequently in my opinion. The new classic is a great buy, though, as the 80g sells for $250 and holds like 40,000 songs -- more than enough for anyone -- I don't know who would need a 160g iPod (well, I only use mine for music so that's a biased comment). Thus right now I own 3 and do not see another in my near future...what I have will suffice. I am not all that impressed with the iPod Touch nor the iPhone -- well the iPhone is cool, though, but too expensive in my humble opinion.
